In 1980 three bored sailors stationed at the Royal Naval Air Station came up with the idea of a 10 mile race on Portland, the cost was 40 pence to enter! Today the race has developed into a testing 10 mile route that will see you run a lap and a half around the top of the island, from one end of the island, Portland Heights Hotel (385 ft), to the other, Portland Bill (30 ft).
Race registration is Portland YMCA, Reforne, DT5 2AN, parking, as well as toilet and changing facilities, are available. Parking at the YMCA is limited, however see attached map for parking areas close to race registration, race start & finish. To get there by road head for Weymouth then follow the signs for Portland on the A354. Follow the main road to the top of Portland at the Heights Hotel roundabout turn right and follow the main road down towards St Georges Church and the Red Triangle cricket club, parking and race registration will be signed.
The route is undulating, on tarmac roads and pavements and goes through built up areas as well as following long stretches of coastal roads. You will be too busy taking in the sights as you pass the prison, admire the breath taking sea views and run past Pennsylvania castle to notice the distance you have covered!
Once the race is full, to give people on the waiting list a chance then a 75% refund will be issued to people who can no longer participate. Once the race is full then please email the event organiser to arrange a refund. Refunds cannot be issued via Full on Sport but will be via bank transfer.
If the event has not sold out, on the day entry will be available and there will be an additional £2 fee for any on the day entries. However, as this years race is a DRRL League event we are expecting it to sell out.
To receive the affiliated runner discounted price, the Full on Sport entry process requires club runners to enter their EA number in order to automatically generate their club from the EA system. If your number is not recognised or it does not generate the correct club, then you must speak to your club membership secretary, or check it online via https://myathletics.englandathletics.org/licencecheck/ to resolve the issue.
You will have access to update your details on the Full on Sport up to 17:00 on Friday 3rd July 2020. After this time no amendments can be made by you the entrant or by us the organiser.
Entrants can also can transfer their entry to another runner via the Full on Sport Website. Again this facility will be available until 17:00 on Friday 3rd July 2020.
