Big Sea Marathon

From Andy: John Curtis and myself decided to do the Big Sea marathon today. Perfect weather for it, there was sand to run on, steep hills and tonnes of steps. Overall a good event with fantastic views.

Swansea Half

From Mat: England masters International race.Swansea half marathon today. Proud to be representing YTRRC today wearing the England vest . Really enjoyed the run , first couple of miles very congested and breezy but picked up the pace the last couple of miles. Never happy with my finishing time 1:37:53. but on reflection times are holding up over the last 5years into my 70s so trying to be positive.

Grimsby 10k

From Malcolm: Today my son Richard and I did the Grimsby 10k , which was an excellent event with 3,200 runners. The weather was kind to us and I managed 57:12, which was my best time this year.

Crewkerne 5 and 10k Race

From Margarita:  A good turnout for another championship race, this time over to Crewkerne for their 5 and 10km race. Jess Smith was our only member in the 5km, a good choice as he missed all the hills. The rest of us did the 10km of undulations out to Merriott and through to Hinton St George, before coming back the way you came and then a nice downhill finish. Fifth time running this race and smashed last year's time by around two minutes for my second-fastest finish here. Well chuffed!

Lovely to have support from Claire Church and Tracy Symes and loving Tracy's cone costume. Some members also got the first ladies club. Well done to Sarah Shillibier, Rach Pep and Anna Kennard.

Duckython

From Ann: This weekend was all about the duckython in more ways than 1 for us both lol . Steve kindly offered to take me to walton On thames to do the duckython we decided that we both had an eventful weekend so we were going to take it easy , plus Steve's hip was playing up can't think why . We done a marathon in 4.08 and seeing we stopped every lap to drink and snack were really pleased . Time flew by and we throughly enjoyed it with a meal after, Steve also got his bronze wings for doing 10 Phoenix running events , well done steve.

Weekend Running

From Helen: Well done all, really enjoyed that this morning  - a new made up route combining others, through East Coker trails, then a pretty adjoining section (cheers Lawrie!) onto Bradford Abbas. Great effort those completing extra miles beforehand . Lush social, with the other running groups, in the cafe after with my delicious pecan pie bars and Lawrie’s tiffin.

From Amanda: Mostly road with a bit of trail thrown in, well done everyone, thanks to Helen for delicious cake at the end.

From Ali: Sunday run out to Compton and the potato cave with great company.

From Tim: What has happened to the weather. Cavity trays Saturday run had light rain and wind as we ran down to Montycute and up to Odcombe. Was still chatty with a great group all who achieved at least 10k.

Park Runs

From Ali: Greendale park run this morning which was rather wet but the course wasn’t muddy. Followed by breakfast at the Donkey Sanctuary and ice cream at Otter Valley.

From Donna: Poole Parkrun for my 'P' . Flat course (which I don't like). 30 mins exactly . Easy parking at Dolphin swimming pool. Toilets by parkrun only 700 runners today, they normally get 1000.

From Rach: Southwick Country Park Parkrun for Paul and I this morning. A bit drizzly but the sun came out for the run. A reasonably flat run with a nice downhill finish. We both nailed our ‘South’ for the Compass Challenge and I was pleased with my first in age as the legs were tired!

From Simon: Got my ‘R’s into gear.

From Trevor: Just me & Tom Allen here today.

From Margarita: Off to Killerton parkrun today to get our K. A nice one lap figure of 8 parkrun. A few hills, a bit of mud, but a nice one to do. Coffee and cake after.

From Chris: Was great to be back running again. Although I was dreading wearing my top again as it is a bit "figure hugging" now plenty of fitness lost after the 6 months off, so hopefully get that back soon. Bridport parkrun was a nice one to start off with, flat all around bar a tiny incline. Nice to see Claire Church there running. Alot to do to get back where was I was, but one small step at a time....

From Kim: Got an end pic of sign as missed the group pics at start. New trail trainers worked well though now bit muddy..enjoyed the new route.

PUB RUN – SANDFORD ORCAS – (4TH JUNE 2026)

From Mark: Tonight we had Elie, Gemma, Rachael, JC, and myself running not so fast, Guy, Ann, Gareth, and Stephen running fast, and Phil running alone.

On a cooler, greyer June evening, the run included a clockwise loop. We ran up Great Pit lane which was dark and damp at the bottom, and opened up towards the top. We turned right, and ran down Slade lane to Heaven’s Door. Continuing onwards we ran through the village of Rimpton, and on to Villa farm. Turning right, we passed Phil as we headed back to Sandford Orcas.

The pub food was good. Thanks Phil for organising.
