Weekend Running

From Tim:  Saturday Cavity trays was a bit cooler than it has been and with the route down Thorne Lane, off road at the allotments through the fields into Monty. Around Monty and up Ladies Walk to Odcombe and back. Sounds easy as Bungy Williams and Debbie Rennard took off chatting away as I struggled to keep up. Thankfully plenty of breaks and a water stop at Odcombe church. Breakfast after with Phil, Dave, Mike, Sharon, Denise and Mel at No5.

Thanks, great start to the weekend.

From Mags: Trail gang went to North Dorset today to run "10 miles" following The Stickler route. 17 miles later we were all glad it was done and we could go to the pub for well deserved drink.

From Margarita:  Sunday Social today with a few of us. We started at Mudford Rec before heading out on my Mudford Loop. It was lovely to finish by sitting outside with a coffee and a chat afterwards. Andy Fielding and I got a few extra miles in beforehand, and Janine Carbine also headed out early to add some extra miles. Well done everyone, and thanks for another great Sunday morning!

Wessex 10k            Full Results

From Jo:  Race report from last nights Wessex 10K 2026 as promised!

Well what can I say, Catherine Rands & the RaceNation Events team pulled off another cracking event, thank you . Despite there being no points on offer, there was a fantastic contingent of green & whites at last nights event. From marshalling to running, we had it well covered.

The start was very well organised & we all headed into the starting pen in time order. But it didn’t matter whether we were at the front chasing PB’s or nearer the back, we all had our personal expectations & pressures to achieve & overcome & we all smashed it. We had several category winners, Lawrie Morris, Gill Pearson & Felicity Came, well done all. If that wasn’t enough, we then had a clean sweep in the ladies race with Gill bagging 1st place, Felicity 2nd & Kayleigh Philps 3rd - a superb result. Not taking anything away from the winners, we all smashed it out there last night & special mention must go to Nicki Hale who completed her first 10k in many years, & what a brilliant finish, as per the photo .

It was a night to be proud of, running, marshalling or supporting, our club had it all & we all deserve a BIG CONGRATULATION & WELL DONE - BE PROUD

From Felicity: I’m not the biggest fan of a 10k race but I do enjoy Wessex. Tonight I surprised myself and came in 2nd Lady over all and first vet 40!! New PB with a chip time of 43:08!! Great turn out from Yeovil Town RRC! Well done everyone. As a club we had 1st, 2nd and 3rd lady!! Amazing work guys . Also lovely to have Phoebe Stone there who smashed her target of sub 50 out of the park and ended up with sub 49!! Lovely evening for a run in the countryside.

Park Runs

From Stace:  Super proud of Jess Smith today on his 50th parkrun milestone. I couldn’t be more proud of him, he only started running last year and what a joy it was running alongside him on this special day. Also great to see Steve on his birthday and Lindsay, final kudos goes to the rock choir for the finish line tunes. Group photos taken from Lindsay’s Strava, thank you

From Emily: I was told by Rob Adams that this would be a ‘fun’ holiday activity I did enjoy it and glad to have conquered the ‘Dune of Doom’ extra beer on the beach for me later.

From Felicity: Blanford parkrun for me and pheebs today. Bit of an effort on tired legs after last night but we enjoyed the out and back route. I was 2nd lady and 1st in my age category and pheebs was 7th lady. Now for a restful afternoon!

From Gareth: Southwark Parkrun for Rachael and I. 3 laps round the park/ lake in the sunshine with breakfast afterwards, where I saw Suki from Eastenders which made it a perfect morning

This is my 26th Parkrun, with all this experience I knew that the first Saturday of the month is club colours. RJ did not get the memo….. seriously though, Louise Ward nicked Rach’s Yeovil top off her backseat when she wasn’t looking!!!!

From Donna: 1st in age group at Eastleigh today. Ticking off 8 today with, namely, compass club and Old Mcdonald and volunteering as well as usual ones. Free car parking, cafe and toilets.

From Kim: The great field parkrun today for me & a couple of other Yeovil runners, tad warm food & art festival in field too !

From Ali: Sunny park run day at Frogmary Green this morning. A good turn out in club colours today.

From Margarita: Today we headed over to Ashton Court parkrun. With tired legs from last night's race, I wasn't quite sure how this one was going to go!

It's a real tale of two halves – 2.5km uphill followed by 2.5km downhill. The climb was a proper slog, but the downhill was an absolute joy. I did tweak my ankle along the way, so we'll see how that feels over the next couple of days.

A tough but lovely parkrun, and well worth the effort. It also got us our A for both the Namely and Alphabeteer challenges. Even better, I've now completed the word PARKRUN too!

PUB RUN – WEST CHINNOCK – (30TH JULY 2026)

From Mark:  Lindsay has already done a very good write up for this Pub Run, but I thought I would do my version as well.

It was not so hot tonight compared to the last few Thursdays, so conditions were a little more comfortable. We had Guy and Ann running fast. Rob leading one not so fast group with Lindsay, Stephen, and Steve. Alison leading a second not so fast group with Mel, JC, and Tracy. Phil ran alone. I walked with Mike.

Leaving the pub we headed north, turned right just past the old petrol pumps, and climbed Smoky Hole Lane. Taking the next left, we descended down to Chiselborough via Brympton hill and Pen Hill. We looped around the village going past the church and pub, then continued back towards West Chinnock. We finished with a second loop passing through Middle Chinnock where we met Rob’s group heading back.

As usual the food was good and plentiful. Thanks Phil for organising.

From Lindsay: Great pub run from the muddled man at West chinook tonight. 5.5 miles completed with the 'not so fast' group consisting of me, Stephen Warren, Robert Adams and Steve, all the way from Australia. Bit of road, bit of trail, plus fighting through a hay field and seeing a lovely deer hiding in amongst it.. it was very scenic and ended with a lovely rump steak tea. Other groups that went out were Phil Mac Quaid walking, Mark Larcombe and Marathon Mike doing their own thing and John Curtis , Tracy Symes, Mel Cox and Alison Griffiths doing their run and Bungy Williams and Ann in the fast group. Well done all.. great night for a social pub run x
