The Sunflower Stride 10K

From Andy: I needed a 10K race for the club hat so I chose this event as its local, starting near Maiden Castle in Dorchester. There were 6 YTRRC members on the start line ready to take on the hilly trail course Saturday evening. The course takes you along tracks , across fields and up and down a few hills including Maiden Castle then you wind your way through a crop maze, finally through the Sunflowers and over the line. I finished in 13th place and recovered with a local cheese burger and a pint of Purbeck Cider. This was a lovely scenic route that offers a 5K or 10K race.

Frome Half Marathon 2025

From Rachael:  Frome Half Marathon 2025 – Hills, Heat & Huge Achievements! A tough but stunning race today in Frome! With big hills at miles 5, 8, and a brutal final climb before the finish, this course really tests your legs and your spirit. But what a route — scenic countryside, great support, and a brilliant atmosphere throughout. Massive congratulations to Darren for smashing it in exactly 1 hour 30 minutes – an incredible achievement on such a challenging course!

Shoutout to all the Yeovil Town Road Running Club runners too – pushing through injuries and intense heat to cross that line. Proper determination and teamwork on display!

With friendly marshals, great medals, and free snacks at the end, Frome delivered once again. Bring on the next one!

The Big Pilgrimage

From Lindsay: Well today saw us complete my 10th marathon this year (20 in total) and Steve's 7th this year. We did The Big Pilgrimage which starts from The Mayflower Park in Southampton and finishes at the Boundary Oak School at Wickham..it was a bit of a hectic start as unfortunately Stephen Warren had to move the car as we were in 2 hr parking only. We missed the start so were late starting by 8 minutes and had to do a sprint start rather than a sprint finish lol.. luckily there were Marshalls to guide as us there were no other runners in sight to follow lol..eventually we caught the tailwalkers up over itchen bridge and then started passing other runners. This route was a lovely picturesque flattish route with a bit of pebbly beach thrown in. This marathon involved stickers for our bibs, a beach, sea views, pick n mix, a pink ferry, railway bridge, a running rhino, Julia from Italy and a lovely colourful medal. Would definitely do this one again.

Park Runs

From Adam: Family and buggy at Weymouth Parkrun with lovely very wavy sea swim and breakfast.

From Lesley: Today saw Tony, Helen and me run the last parkrun of our holiday at Torbay Velopark. A couple laps of the Velopark and one lap of the field with one slight slope. Nice to see Leyton there who had a very speedy run . Good for a PB should you feel the need . Breakfast back in Dartmouth and a final mooch around, then home stopping at Otter Valley for the obligatory ice cream.

From Lindsay: Itchen Valley Park run done today for the 'I'. Just the 'O' and 'Z' to do to complete the park run alphabet challenge. This was a great one to do as we coincided it with a visit to our Fareham family. We had a lovely catch up with my cousin @amymart_29 and @mikem2307. Mike joined us for the park run and the boys did the route together. This route was lovely. It was mainly on gravel paths and bridleways through a forest and you run past GO APE which goes through the forest. Lovely weather and lots of people. Would love to do this one again.

From Jo: A few green & whites out at Frogmary Green Farm parkrun in the Somerset sunshine this morning . Well done to Mel Dodge’s granddaughter on her 10th Parkrun.

From Louise: Myself and Chris Holt did Woolacombe Dunes Parkrun today. The first mile was mainly downhill running on soft sand through the dunes, then a flat mile along the firmer sand on the beach. The last mile was tough with a slog up the dune of gloom, a fairly flat section on soft sand and then not too far from the finish was the slope of hope. If you don't like getting sand in your trainers this one isn't for you! Word of warning re parking. If you park in the National Trust Marine Drive Car park by the start and finish and you are not a member it's £10 and it was chaos. Fez and I were glad we rode our bikes over from our campsite in Croyde. There are toilets, the café opened at 9 but there was a big queue by the time I had finished. Would I do it again, probably not. Am I glad I did it? Yes, it was an experience with fabulous views.

From Margarita: York parkrun today, a nice lap and a half around the racecourse and I got a Parkrun pb

From Donna: Weymouth for me. Saw some Yeovil runners. Not a fan of this one but least I got my 'W'

PUB RUN – WEST CAMEL – (14TH AUGUST 2025)

From Mark:  The not so fast group tonight was just me, Chloe, and JC, with Chloe leading. Guy and Phil both ran alone. We had not used the Walnut for a pub run for a while, so it made a nice change to return there.

Leaving the pub in warm sunshine, we ran down to the church, then went off-road, passing the church. We continued off-road until reaching Wales (village). We then continued along the lane to Queen Camel. We continued through the village, crossing the bridge then turned right to find off-road again. We found our way, crossed a field, and reached Wales lane. Turning left, we ran out to the junction with West Camel road. Turning right we ran westwards out to Chantry lane. Along Chantry lane we turned right to go off-road, and reached West Camel. The last leg was down the road back to the pub. Thanks Chloe for leading.

It was good to be back. The food was good. Thanks Phil for organising.
