Rememberance Day Marathon

From Lindsay: As some of you know i set myself a challenge of doing a marathon a month this year and was doing really well until I was surprised with having a major operation 7 weeks ago, which I didn't expect. However in true stubborn Lindsay Saunders style I got back on my feet doing little by little and trying to walk 5k every day with the goal of doing Weymouth 10 miler 4 weeks after my op, which I did (just for another hat lol) and not a bad time either considering i jeff'd it. So as I seemed to be recovering well I thought right I need another marathon in Nov to keep on track with my challenge so this weekend saw one woman and her roof tent head to walton on Thames to do Rememberance Day marathon with Phoenix Running Ltd . So in true Bungy Williams style i set up my tent at Apps Court camping site and literally Walked out the back gate and walked a mile down the road to the Weir Hotel and sunk several glasses of red, with a Stilton and steak pie and apple crumble for afters lol (well I did have a marathon to run the next day lol).

So i got up at 6am this morning and packed away my very wet tent (note to self book an extra night and the day off work the next day. So i started running at 8.30 in the hope i would have done one out and back 10k lap and be back in time for the 9.30 mass start. I timed it perfectly with a few mins turn around to spare.

Today's marathon wasn't easy and wasn't quick but with only 7 weeks since my op i had to listen to my body and at mile 8 I had to drop the pace but it is what it is. At 11am there were Marshalls out on the course with air horns so when we heard them along the 6 mile out and back course we had to stop and respect a 2 min silence to remember those that gave up their lives so we can be here today. I also had to help a lovely lady who took a tumble in front of me bless her, in true runner style she continued and finished her marathon.

Phoenix running really run some great events and you make some great friends who you pass quite a bit and tell eachother well done. With regular aid tents you don't need to carry supplies and as you can see from the pics the medals are awesome too. Just a matter of heading off to Lanzarote Marathon next month with the club and hopefully Stephen Warren will bless us with his presence too. Thanks for treating me to lunch and dinner from afar today. You may not be here in body but you were with me in spirit and on the blower regularly.

Salt Settler Six

From Rachael: Lovely weather for it yesterday! The tide was in, so we got wet feet for the first couple of loops and a fair bit of mud along the way too. A really well-organised event with loads of great snacks to keep us going.

Darren smashed it with 37.5 miles and took 1st male!  I clocked 24.5 miles and loved every soggy step.

Southampton Morun

From Felicity: Southampton morun today with pheebs. She did the 10k and I did the half. She smashed her first 10k race! Furthest she’s ever run.

I’m a bit injured and I wasn’t sure I’d even be able to make it round but did in a time of 1:41:45 (gun time). I was hoping for a little faster but I was in a fair bit of pain the last 5k and it was a struggle. Still managed 12th over all, 2nd female and first in my age category.

Fun and friendly event and great moustache medal!!

Poole Mo

From Margarita: Off to Poole for Tracy Symes and I today for the Poole Mo Run, which raises money and awareness for prostate cancer. This was 4 laps around the Upton Country Park Run. A good course, all on gravel paths. Starting getting tough by lap 4 but we did it and all for a fabulous medal. Coffee and cake afterwards.

Park Runs

From Lindsay: Not many of us at Frogmary Green Farm parkrun today and it was a little slip slidey at times but pleased with 1st in my age category and continously running it in under 30 mins, after needing to stop and help a young lad struggling. Well done all this morning.

From Rach: A lovely run this morning at Five Arches, Debbie and I celebrated our 100th parkrun in the sunshine with great company.

From Andy: Ormeau parkrun, this was a great run through a beautiful park in Belfast with clear blue skies and the sun shining on us. The start was very congested and slow, the finish funnel was incredibly long too which made my run short short, but i thoroughly enjoyed it.

From Kimmi: Minehead park run ..lovely double rainbow as arrived but sun came out, very narrow in parts. I took 41 seconds off my pb on 3rd park run.

From Chris: Change of plan, headed to Shepton Mallet for the parkrun today. Happy to plod round at a relaxed pace, taking in the event. Reasonably size crowd today, some pacers were there to help. Slight drizzle to begin with, but ended with blus skies.

From Steve: All done for my 2 San Remo park run trying to keep the legs ticking over. Tricky today as extremely wet but at least it eased off a bit for the start and only massive puddles at the end.

PUB RUN – SHERBORNE – BRITANNIA INN – (6TH NOVEMBER 2025)

From Mark: Alison, Mel, Rachael, Rob, and myself made up the not so fast group tonight. Ann and Guy ran fast, and Phil ran alone. JC was injured and stayed in the pub.

The not so fast group ran an anti-clockwise loop, firstly running past the fish n chip shop and the abbey, and out to Long street. At the end of long street we turned into Newland, then ran along the avenue. Crossing the A30, we ran north through houses and alleys until reaching the Bristol road. We then ran down to the mermaid, and down to Coombe via blackberry lane. Turning left we climbed the track, crossed over Marston road, and ran into Sheeplands. We continued down past the vets and crossed the A30 at the traffic lights. We made our way to Bradford road, turned left and took the track down to the shops. We continued through the houses and picked up the path through the cemetery, where the temperature literally dropped by about 10 degrees. We crossed over Horsecastles lane and continued back towards the town centre. We ran back to the pub via the boys school and Abbey.

In the pub, the food was good and plentiful. Thanks Phil for organising.
