Cardiff 10k

From Ann: Today was the Cardiff 10k run nearly 8 thousand people taking part , we ran it in memory of baby George so a super special run and Beth's first 10k run and Amy's first race . Amy done it in 59 minutes and my self and beth ran together and done it in 1hour 8 minutes super proud of us as a family and new generation of runners.. we started in the rain but the buz was amazing from the crowds and supporters, the streets were ful for the whole race and can't wait to come back next year.

Blackdown Half

From Rachael: Today’s Blackdown Hill Trail Race was a true test of endurance, with a total elevation gain of 1772 ft over 13.9 miles. A 45-minute delay due to thunderstorms wasn’t the ideal start, but once the skies cleared, conditions were surprisingly great for running.

The course was as tough as the name suggests, with endless ups and downs. Miles 6 and 12 featured particularly brutal climbs that tested my resolve.

Darren smashed it in 1:54, coming in 9th overall, while I was happy to come in just under 3 hours. Definitely earned that finish line feeling today. Massive credit to the organisers — the event was well marshalled, clearly marked, and ran smoothly despite the weather hiccup.

A hard race, but one I’d absolutely recommend if you’re up for a challenge.

From Carl: Blackdown Half today, delayed start due to the lightning so a bit of hanging around but no rain or storms when we got going, so good call. Found it hard going up Staple Hill and a few other inclines. Reckon I earnt my pizza at the end.

Phil and Bonnie Bounder

From Margarita: So this weeks bonkers thing was I decided to do the Phil and Bonnie Bounder 10K race bearing in mind I have a flight this evening at 7pm. I roped Caroline Bennett Smith into this one and she did amazing as she's not ran 10km in a while. Trying to get the photo taken in amongst rain, toilet queues and walking the km to the start was a feat but managed to get most in a photo before and one photo after. Lovely to see Terry Byrne there along with Steve Lye, Alan Hutchings and Sara Hawkins.

We started  with a 1km walk to the start and popped past a mermaid, to a narrow path, then it was go. Alongside the back of Bovington training ground. This was a nice trail run with hills, tree roots and sand, all throughout the forest with a bit of road. The weather stayed kind to us, though some would say it was too warm. A good localish one today, fab medal and all for the donkeys.

Weekend Running

From Graham: Sunday long run for us this morning. Managed to take this photo before the heavens opened!!

From Ali: Sunday social 10K group with 7.5 miles completed today. Out through Coker out to the reservoir and back through Barwick and the mangel-wurzel field and then down into ninesprings. Heavy showers with thunder and lightning but great company kept us going.

From Helen: Wow that was one extremely wet 10 mile run with thunder and lightningthrown in too! Thanks for the company all…we all kept in good spirits too even in the dreadful weather, and with the hills that come with the Trent Loop! Lovely social after, with 2 new bakes that seemed to go down well! Now to get warm and dry and relax for the rest of Sunday.

From Tim:  Cavity trays Saturday run.

A nice 10k run down to Montycute and up to Odcombe for the six of us in beautiful conditions. Nice to see Bungy Williams at the top of Doon Lane, us going up with Bungy on the way down. Sharon carried on to complete a half as part of her Chicago marathon training. Breakfast was well earned at No.5 with Phil Mac Quaid and marathon Mike.

Park Runs

From Louise: Keswick Parkrun for Me, Fez and by an amazing coincidence Dom! Out and back path, a tunnel, lots of bridges and views of the river. Fez did it in 24.05 and his hip didn't hurt so that's a bonus! Thanks to chief supporter and photographer Katy Brooks.

From Trevor: Sedgefield Parkrun in the northeast fabulous country park.

From Sarah:  After a climb up Mount Snowdon yesterday, I was a Parkrun tourist at Hafan Pwllheli this morning (home to Keith Brymer Jones of the Great Pottery Throwdown). The run is a hard out and back route along the beach with the stunning Eyri National Park in the background. Not a venue for a PB , but 22nd out of 64, 3rd female and 1st in the VW60-64 category.

From Jo:  Was it for the points, the milestones or just the breakfast that we had such a great turn out by the green & whites at Frogmary Green Farm parkrun this morning. Well done to all for running & bagging yourself championship points. Now the milestones - we had loads (I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone ) Adrian Lax for 350th Jack Lax for 250th Paul Gilbie for 100th, Lesley Nesbitt for 300th & last but not least, Tony Nesbitt for 150th - amazing all, that is a lot of park runs .

First time for us at The Hub (303) for breakfast - the food was lovely & they did a great job of serving us as there were a lot of us!!

Final shout out to all the club members who volunteered to ensure the Parkrun actually happened.

From Rach:  A little trip to Oxford for Gareth and I! For someone who said he would never do anymore than 10 parkruns… Gareth celebrated his 15th this morning It was a nice route, well organised and very popular!

From Steve: A bit more parkrun tourism to add to the many locations club members have done this morning……Burnham for me.

From Donna: A little touring for me. 3 times around the Velopark due to construction of normal path. I don't like flat even though i'm faster. Frogmary is still my favourite due to gradients.
