Stratford Marathon and Half

From Debbie: Headed to the lovely town of Stratford today for the marathon. Saw Kevin Doherty at the start but not Steve Lye who were both doing the half…a wise decision! Got it done despite injury in pretty hot conditions!

From Kevin:  Shakespeare Half - much ado about running! To run or not to run? That was the question at 4am when the alarm went off. ( credit to Steve Lye ). A quick breakfast and then we hit the road for a long overdue road trip up to Stratford upon Avon. Unsurprisingly the roads were quiet at this time in the morning, or is that still night!?, and we made good time. The marathon and half marathon runners converged in the town centre and then we were off for a lap of the town centre and then out into the countryside. A really nice course with 1 big hill at 7 miles. A great medal and lots of goodies awaited us at the finish. Steve finished in a fantastic 01:31:34, whilst i forgot and only realising the week before that we’d signed up for it and nursing various injuries dragged myself around in 02:09:31 , Happy with that. We also had Debbie Rennarddwho had entered Marathon she's no novice this was Marathon No 2 for Debbie , very sensibly opted for Hotel and a lie in . Debbie did amazing and completed her second Marathon in 04:46:05 11th from 178 in age group in really hot challenging conditions so well done.

London Marathon             Full Results

We had 13 runners down as Yeovil Town RRC in the London Marathon with Gill the first Club runner over the line with a great time of 3:01 and Mike was our first male in 3:39, well done to all the Club runners.

From Sharon:  This London Marathon weekend club members namely Taryn Monks, Chris Greengrow, Gemma Murley and I travelled to the big smoke to run the London Midnight Marathon in reverse. Dom Rowe and Michaela Hurd spotted us at the start just before midnight. Off we went at 12.01GMT. Needless to say we didn't see Dom or Michaela again until the finish. Note to you two - being fast means you get to do extra miles as Tower Bridge was shut for you but open by the time we got there . Not easy by any means running at night and that distance but all ran brilliantly. I had to dig deep for the last 5 or so miles but Gemma was very encouraging (this wasn't my choice of words at the time). What an incredible night with many other runners both local, not local and overseas. Would I do it again - probably not as have now run it the right way and backwards.

Beacon Beast Marathon

From Ann: My self and Matthew Bambury travelled down to bodmin to do the beacon beast marathon. It was a 4.30 am start to get ready started travelling just gone half five got there for half seven bit of waiting around but some amazing people and the race organisers are lovely and all the marshals are lovely and the aid stations were great . The beacon beast definitely lived up to its name the elevation was 3,041ft elevation. It was just over 27 miles it total ,matt done it in 5.15 and I done it in 4.30.52 . The heat we had was immense and the hill's were quite extreme. We has stiles , large stepping stones, mud, fields, large stoney tracks and an amazing bodmin monument. We had an amazing medal and t-shirt. Thank you Beacon Beast marathon and half marathon.

Weekend Running

From June: Just 4 of us in the cavity trays gang this morning. First time for Kerry - welcome. Added an extra mile or so as we ran through Montacute Park and the orchard to avoid Balls Hill. Thanks Tim and Co. (Think I need to practice selfies a bit more)

From Linda: Just 6 of us running 8/9 miles this morning. Andy Lambert and I took a short cut towards the end. I was tired and Andy wanted to take it easy ready for his marathon next week. Thank you Natasha Turner for leading the group. Andy provided the brownies and flapjacks this week. They were delicious Now relax and watch the London Marathon.

Hyde Park 10k

From Gareth: Myself and Nigel Parker aka ‘Fez’ decided to go against the grain today, while the other 4 Londoners went and travelled on the tube to a Parkrun. We decided to walk a mile across the park and do the Hyde Park 10k. Great turnout and atmosphere. I managed to conquer the sub 40 by 9 seconds. And Fez came in looking strong just under 50 minutes. We will be wearing our medals with pride today.

Park Runs

From. Margarita:  Off to Durlston Country Park parkrun today for a D. And a big shout-out to Linda Membury for getting her parkrun Namely completed today. This is the hilliest parkrun in the UK and apparently a mental challenge as the marshal explained in the first timers brief. But there was a simple mantra to remember. Right, Left, Out & Back, Right, Left and Finish helped by a green sign that you passed four times. A really lovely and really hilly parkrun. As the cafe was popular and in the castle we challenged the person who finished first to get a table, this turned out to be Paul Gilbie. The food in the cafe was lovely and good service with reasonable prices. A lovely morning with good company, thanks for driving Linda.

From Terry: Finally completed our A to Z of Parkruns quick change of venue as original run cancelled as we got out here Thanks to Tracy Symes for top tip of this place just a short drive from Den Haag.

From Lesley: Tourist parkrun at Southampton today while staying with friends in Romsey. A lovely parkrun around Southampton Common with over 1000 runners/walkers.

From Mafalda:  With a promise of nice weather, me and Jeff Watson got a ride with Luke down Devon way to try the newish Greendale Farm Shop Parkrun. Well, no sunshine and some proper rain to start meant course was quite muddy at places. And then the hill ! Jeff wanted to try the mud on his road trainers. Lucky me had my trail running shoes on. Course is quite nice, mostly on paths, with a hill towards the end and a bit of running between the farm animals, including a kangaroo and emu.

From Jo: Managed to snap a few of us today in between my car park marshalling & the start of Frogmary Green Farm parkrun.

From Taryn: Here for leg loosener and mindset reset.

From Ali: Valentines park run for our letter V this morning. A lovely park with friendly people and a scenic venue.

PUB RUN – GALHAMPTON – (24TH APRIL 2025)

From Mark:  On a warm, dry, and still evening, Ann and Mat ran with Guy going fast. Kirsty, JC, and myself ran not so fast, and Phil ran alone. Leaving the pub, we headed east through the village, and past the manor house. We continued along the narrow lane to Yarlington Mill farm, which has been replaced by some luxury houses. Turning left, and left again, we ran into Yarlington, but turned back just past the pub. We ran towards Woolston, but turned right. We continued along Corkscrew lane until reaching Sandbrook lane. Turning right, we headed north back towards Galhampton. Turning into the village we met Phil before running back to the pub.

The food was good. Thanks Phil for organising.
