Released On 20th Jun 2025
Exbury Gardens 10K
From Claire: Exbury Gardens 10K, lovely undulating route but boy was it hot, made the second half tough. Well organised and friendly race, one I’d definitely do again. Lovely to see Terry Byrne who was definitely first Yeovil runner home!
Bungy: I can't all any phots as it say content not available?
Giants Head
From Lindsay: Well thank god that's over.. that was hot, hilly and horrible lol.. not a bad time tho despite falling twice, the second one was the worst fall as i hit the floor with my hip, knee, hands and shoulder on hard gravel. 2 gentleman were so lovely and helped me and a lovely lady said do you want me to walk with you, to which I replied no I'm okay, whilst holding back the tears.. luckily an aid station was round the corner and they were fab, they gave me antiseptic wipes, coke and a hug. I got myself sorted, cleaned up the blood and carried on. It was tough conditions today with the heat, hills and really rocky terrain.. luckily myself, Paul Gilbie and Rach Pep kept eachother going, thanks guys. There was 8 from the club taking part today (dom rowe, andy hale, Matt Driver, John Curtis, darren mackle, Paul Gilbie, Rach and myself) and hopefully we all finished, despite the conditions. We all earned ourselves a spinny willy medal and a massive ice cream and most of us got pbs on this course today. Great event and well supported.
From Margarita: This was all Tracy Symes fault she convinced us to do it for her last race of her forties. We all had a lovely time running together. Rachel Moores had a little tumble, Tim Moores had a big ice cream and we all got a spinning willy medal.
From Jo: Ok so the more sensible amongst us (if there is such a thing?!!) took on the Giant’s Head Half Marathon today. A slightly different route than last year which meant we actually got to see the Willy Man!! The weather was kinder to us than yesterday but it was still hot & dusty out there. There were some super speedy amongst us & also some great team efforts. The organisers thanked us several times (including for those who braved (or just foolish!!!) from yesterday for taking part & said we really made their weekend 👍. I do think though that all of us got more from the ice creams & spinny willy medals than we did actually running this race, isn’t that right Tim Moores (who still had the energy to jiggle while consuming an ice cream bigger than him) 🤦♀️🤣.
Well done all, in the worlds of the events organiser “we all did our club proud” 💚💚

I even managed to not get stung still very surprised at that . We went through some lovely fields and really nice tracks , seen some horses few dogs and walkers and even with a hot temperature it was a lovely run with great company . Mark done just under 5 miles . We all got back to the pub for a well deserved pint or two and a really lovely meal . Phil Mac Quaid done his online course while waiting for us all to get back. If you have never done a pub run please give it a go its a real social event with some great running and a lot of fun.
SHERBORNE PUB RUN - NEXT THURSDAY 26TH JUNE-FISH N CHIPS
From Mark: As this is the week of the Glastonbury Festival, many of our Pub Run regulars will be at Glastonbury, so the plan is as follows: I'm doing a slow and steady run. Guy is doing a faster run. All welcome, meet 6:30 in front of the abbey. After the run, we are getting Fish n Chips from the nearby shop, and eating on the benches outside of the abbey. You will need cash to buy the Fish n Chips. If it's raining we can go to the band stand in the park.
Brean Banger MTR
From Jo: Now I have had 24hrs to recover I can write the race report
Last night saw our next championship race, the new Brean Banger MTR, & what a banger it was!!! We were all grateful for the gentle sea breeze although I am sure a couple of our male athletes were complaining of being a bit chilly . There was a mass start as we all ran away from the bright hot sun into the distance, 1 mile along the compact golden sand…… . Though, thankfully a short soft sand hill dune then saw us off around fields & along the estery, a slightly rutted path that did not suit us all!! Up until now we certainly could not complain about the elevation - it had been pretty flat. That was all to change at the 6k point where all I can say is we went UP to the very top & around the trig point. As we ran around & then started the decent down, if you don’t have to look at where you’re placing your feet on the rutted, stoney, uneven ground, the views I am told (& as some of us photoed) where truly beautiful with Weston Super Mare to the left & Brean Sands to the right. The final mile (ish) truly was down hill, very steep down hill & then onto the finish. Oh, & I am pretty sure we clocked 6.5miles of which I do seem
to remember was mentioned in the race brief . The results are in & Lesley Nesbitt is kindly processing them. Luke Betteridge & Ann Grace where the first club members over the line bagging 50 points each & special mention to Ann & Lesley who both bagged 1st in their age categories.
Would we do it again…….. probably!!!
