Hoping for a Few Laps

Hope 36

From Lindsay: Another weekend, Another ultra marathon lol (2 ultras and a marathon within 4 weeks lol) yep I'm mad but it's what we do lol. Hope 12 for me, 6 laps = 30 miles Other club members taking part were June Moule, Adam, Ann, Sharon Hardy, Stephen Warren doing Hope 36 and , Sarah Davies John Curtis, Tim Willis and Eleanor Ellie Damon doing Hope 24 and bless Honey the dog even took part and did 2 laps (10 miles). Well done all YTRRC members who ran this weekend, it was a very hot, dusty, knarly and challenging route. The route this year was the other way round so you had a lovely long hill to start you off every lap in the baking sun. Some club members ran through the night on the first night and it soon became apparent that 1. It wasn't much cooler, 2. Not much breeze or air, 3. You had to have your wits about you as there were lots of Tripping hazards and 4. It was very dusty. All in all it was a great running weekend with lots of us achieving our goals and more importantly some achieving their marathon/ultra for their hats. You all did amazing in the heat and THE HILL lol. It was all topped off with the England game on the big screen and even winning. Go YTRRC, who's coming next year XX

From Ann: Wow what can I say but hope 36 was hard the sun was relentless and the miles hard, the course was 5 mile loops of hills tree stumps stones fields and even more hills . This time I decided to take 2 breaks for power naps and I managed 100 miles which got me my buckle. We started 9pm Friday and I finished just gone 2am sunday morning and that was me done . GB ultras is an amazing team to run for there friendly , supportive and fun to run for. I met some amazing people especially at night time when it got extremely lonely and you questioned your choices. To say under extreme circumstances I am extremely proud is an understatement. Thank you Sarah Davies for taking me.

Otter Rail and River Run

From Margarita:  On the hottest day of the year so far, Angela Suter and I headed down to Devon for the Otter Rail and River Run. With an 11am start, we knew we were in for a warm one! And it was so hot

I'd convinced myself this was going to be a lovely flat run, even though I'd run it before... I couldn't have been more wrong. From the start, we crossed the bridge before weaving along a narrow sandy trail, over another bridge, and through fields and shaded woodland to the first hill, where the marshals were waiting with much-appreciated water. The course continued to twist and turn along winding trail paths with plenty of zigzags and, despite what I'd expected, quite a few hills. I think Angela was probably cursing me by this point!

Despite the heat and the climbs, it was a really enjoyable event with a friendly atmosphere, supportive marshals, lots of water stations, a nice finishers' medal and a bottle of beer.

We got it done, and I told Angela we'd definitely earned an ice cream, so we stopped at Otter Valley on the way home for a well-deserved treat.

Weekend Running

From Helen: Sunday Club Run complete - a nice shaded shorter route today  well done all.

From Lesley: Just three of us today for our jeffing run. I realised as we were running along Lysander Road that this was not the route I had planned , so we 'winged' it to East Coker then picked up the correct route to West Coker and up thru the path to Camp Road and back via Bunford and Lysander Road as it was more shady than West Coker Road. The mileage still made up to 9.5 which was more than enough in the heat. Well done to us.

From Margarita: Lottie, Chris Holt and I for Sunday Social 10km. I did extra to make it to 10 miles and Tracy Symes ran 16 miles down to meet us at Ninesprings.

Park Runs

From Linda: Nearly forgot to put this on today. It was a tad warm! Had to do a bit of walking. 244 people and I came in exactly half way through the pack 122! Love the course, well done everyone that turned up and congratulations to Simon Eadon for completing his 450 PR.

From Helen: Woolacombe Dunes Parkrun - challenging but thoroughly enjoyable followed by a lush hot beach  day soaking up the sun  with friends and jumping waves  to cool off! Thanks all for a great day.

From Mags: First time running the Longrun Meadow parkrun in Taunton. Leigh has finally ran his hometown parkrun. It was his 2nd official and my 20th official (we both forgot our barcodes at some point in the past.

PUB RUN – MOSTERTON – (9TH JULY 2026)

From Mark:  On another hot summer evening a few of us turned out for the pub run tonight.

Guy ran fast alone. Rob, Mel, JC, Mike, and myself ran not so fast. Phil ran alone. Alison didn’t run. Adam and Corine joined us for the meal afterwards.

Leaving the pub we headed north eastwards across fields towards South Perrott. We passed through a herd of docile young cows. At one point there were dragon flies. Instead of taking the overgrown path along the stream, we took a new looking track across fields, which came out on a road bypassing the village. Turning right we followed the road which climbed to Pickett farm, and then descended to the Chedington road. We turned right and followed the road back to Mosterton.

For the meal we sat outside. Thanks Phil for organising.
