Another Load of Races
Released On 26th Sept 2026
Marwell 10k
From Felicity: A trip to the zoo for Phoebe and me today. We signed up for this race ages ago, long before I decided to run the Autumn edition of Ham and Lyme last weekend. This was always meant to be a just for fun race as it’s something a bit different. An early start for me and a bit of a stressful arrival due to over 1200 runners and their spectators trying to get into the zoo at the same time!
By the time we found each other and battled through the toilet queue there was only a few minutes to go on until the start and it was packed. We decided to not try and battle our way to the front as this race was just for fun, right . We started steady through the zoo and out into the country. The course was packed and there was a lot of weaving around to be done. We stayed together for a bit but then lost each other in the crowd so just cracked on. The first half of the race was mainly up hill and quite steep in places, but that meant that the second half was predominantly down hill and we picked up speed. The race finishes through the zoo which was a novelty. In the end I was 4th female out of 770 and 50th overall out of 1220. (By gun time, 3rd fastest female by chip time) with a chip time of 44:20. Pheebs smashed it too and was 18th female. Free entry into the zoo for runners and half price for guests after made a very enjoyable day out and one I would definitely do again. (Though next time I would try and start nearer the front ). Ignore the fact I look like I’m crying in the photo of us at the end. My face cream was running into my eyes and stinging!!

Sherborne 10k
From Angela: Three do Sherborne 10k Flying the flag for Yeovil Karalia Howells Darren Howells and myself ran the Sherborne Sports Centre 10k this morning. Only a small field of runners as they limited entrants to 30 for this new route. Started off at Carey's Field steadily climbed up through Lenthay out onto Bradford Road then a lovely downhill section on Horsecastles and back along Lengthay to do a second loop. 3 PBs for me - fastest mixed trail 10k 1:03, fastest 1k 5:29 and fastest 1 mile 8:57 - happy days. Would definitely do it again, great friendly marshalls, good swag and done by 10.30am. What's not to like?!

Stourhead NT 10K
From Steve: I thought I’d stretch my tired legs - some nasty hills on this trail run.

Taunton 10k
From Nick: There were 3 of us from Yeovil that took on the Taunton 10k. It was a mainly flat course with some on main roads but the Marshalls looked after us really well! We went over the busy M5 and got a few toots from the drivers! There were a few slight inclines on the country lanes but nothing Yeovil Town RRC couldn’t handle, overall a lovely route, at one point I thought we were going up someone’s drive! Well done Malcolm Maxted & Ellie Edwards.
Race the Lakes

From Margarita: Only five of us headed over to Poole for the next race in the championship — Race the Lakes! The race was basically three laps around the local parkrun course, so there wasn’t much variety, but it was another championship race ticked off the list! Paul Gilbie stormed off at the start and took an impressive 50 points for the men, while Rach Pep also picked up 50 points for the ladies. Debbie Keeble had a fantastic run too, coming away with 49 points!
Andy Fielding very kindly decided to run with a poorly me and help me get around, which was very much appreciated. We crossed the finish line together, picking up 49 and 48 points. Unfortunately, it wasn't really my race today. No medal, just a cooling towel, three identical laps and a very, very flat course! But despite not feeling great, I got around and that's another championship race done and dusted. At the moment, the official times or final results are not known as there was an issue with the race timing system and they're still trying to get everything sorted. Hopefully the results will be available soon!

Club Championship
From Lesley: Just thinking about compiling next year's Club Championship races. The Full Monty will be the first one on 6th December 2026, followed by Chard Flyer on 1st Jan 2027. I am hoping to include Stoke Stampede but I can't see any details for this as yet. The Full Monty will fill up very quickly and entries are open now, so sign up quickly - https://fullmontycutetrailrace.wordpress.com/
The updated Ladies Champs can be seen here
River Ness 10k
From Kim: River Ness 10k in Inverness for me at the end of our Scotland tour. Over 3k people taking part, lovely route with some woods & roads.

Trail Escapes Bristol to Bath 25k
From Steve: I signed up to this before I broke my foot and I was unsure whether it was a good idea to do it - fortunately my foot held up over the undulating and rutted course (although sore now). Apart from a 15 mile run around Yeovilton last weekend I haven’t done any good training- so I knew I was winging it a bit!! Being an early start I travelled up the night before and had the luxury accommodation of my van!
The 25k starts just after the marathon runners and walkers so the first mile or so is a bit chaotic as you try to get past on the narrow track. This is a run of two halves - the first 7 miles are flat, on firm gravel and tarmac paths and pretty easy going. At 7 miles things change and you leave the path and traverse fields running alongside the canal. At 10 miles the “fun” really begins and you go up for a very long time!, you are however rewarded with great views. The descent is rocky and uneven, and I took it steady to safeguard my foot. The course is a bit long for 25k being 16 miles (slightly different and longer to when I did it 2 years ago) and as you start to flag there is a final climb through an alley just to keep you working a bit longer before a final descent into the Royal crescent in Bath. Fortunately the cramp assassin stayed away today! A big turn out and very pleased to have finished 72/1,074.

Weekend Running
From Linda: Only the 3 of us today. Lesley Nesbitt lead the run. Not going to lie, there was lots of hills but lovely route. We thought part of it was going to be really muddy but it was dry! The others made it up to 9 miles but I stopped. Lovely flapjacks made by Helen Nesbitt at the end. They were gurt lush — with Lesley Nesbitt and Mandy Barker.

From Helen: Sunday 14 miler complete thanks for the company for the first 4 early miles Dariusz, and then great to have the extra 6 of you for our usual 10 miler, thanks all lovely little social after with yummy munchie flapjack which the rain nearly stopped play for but luckily soon disappeared! Now to rest my legs!

From Tim: A small group this morning at Cavity trays, Phil doing his loop while Sharon Hardy and Rebecca Wigmore ran the Chilthorne Monty off road route. Great weather and chatty company. Breakfast at no.5 as usual. Thanks all.

Park Runs
From Terry: Our latest trip away to the Isle of Man Nobles Parkrun.

From Linda: I completed my Alphabet Parkrun today! Lovely trip to the Netherland to do the Zuiderpark parkrun (Which translates to Southpark and gets you the Compass!) Went with Steve Membury and my lovely cousin Susan. They will thank me later when they get over it! 2 lap course on roads. Very friendly. Most runners were there to get their Z. Great community. Well worth a visit.

From Adam: Today we did Schloss Rheydt parkrun in Germany - a lovely two lap run in castle grounds through woods and around a lake. Beautiful surroundings. 45 finishers so top 40 finish!!!Corinne was 1st in her age category. I ran with an English guy who had just driven over from Dover and was driving straight back!! All for Wilson Index 4! The team were great and the run director translated everything into English! Afterwards we all went to the restaurant in the castle for tea, coffee and breakfast - for us a very large bowl of porridge ++
My 80th location.

From Margarita: Today Andy Fielding and I headed over to Highcliffe Beach parkrun to tick off our H. This is such a lovely parkrun, with two laps along the beach and a mix of different terrain, including sections of sand. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny day, making it even more enjoyable, with some gorgeous views along the way.
I’m still getting over a cold and, with the ultra last weekend, I’m definitely taking things a little easier at the moment. It was nice to get out, enjoy a gentle 5k and tick off another letter together.

From Donna: So today I did the inaugural at Cockington Court Parkrun for my Wilson challenge. This definitely is not a pb course. I like a hill in a parkrun but this felt like a mountain. 382 parkrunners/walkers with a good amount of tourists. The course is narrow in places. 2 lap course with a steep hill to climb but a nice downhill too. It does get a little congested in places but I think that was to do with the amount of people for there first one. Well organised. Plenty of carparks around the house at £3.10 for 2 hrs. Toilets and a cafe which serves breakfast along with some little shops around back. The sour dough bread shop was doing very well. Did I enjoy this parkrun - yes. Would I do it again - definitely not.

From Ali: Frogmary and the final park run on a glorious sunny morning and what a magnificent turnout to day, goodbye. Well done to Hilary Askew on her 500th and Louise Ward on her 100th. Fab cake, thanks to Hilary.

PUB RUN – SOUTH PETHERTON – (24TH SEPTEMBER 2026)
From Mark: I’m not sure who led the fast group tonight, but it included Guy, Rob, Lawrie, Kelly, and Rebecca. Guy took a great photo of two deer while out on the run.
Phil ran alone. Sue led and planned a route for the not so fast group, which included Sue, Alison, Kay, Mel, JC, and myself. It was a great run, mostly off-road along some well kept paths, and across fields, with South Petherton streets towards the end. The latter part of the run became quite atmospheric with the sun setting, and with the roof tops silhouetted against the sky. It was also fairly warm out there.
The pub food afterwards was good. Thanks Phil for organising.
