Bridgwater Half Marathon                 Results

From Jo: Nice to see some of Yeovil Town RRC at today’s Bridgwater Half Marathon & 10k. New routes for both distances. A little chaotic at the start for the half, not sure about the 10k but it was a great route, far better than the last one, the Marshalls were great & it was well marked. The new start / finish venue was great, helped by the lovely weather. I am not sure who did want times but that doesn’t matter, it was great to see everyone taking part. Great running all, be proud.

Somerset Half

From Tim: I needed a half for my hat so Rob Adams said he knew a flat one across to levels organised by a new company. Steve Sparks also came for the morning out. It's base was at Sweets cafe just outside Glastonbury and yes it was flattish. It was all on road but very uneven. Steve shot off at the start with Rob and I in pursuit. Rob caught him at 5 miles and finished first Yeovil Steve second with me almost tail running.

Tapyard Ultra 50k

From Dan:  Tapyard Ultra 50k completed, 3rd in age. Getting old and fit seems to be paying off… Great event by Racing Line Running From Ramsbury Brewery, along the beautiful country lanes, through stunning trails and a decent selection of the Kennet & Avon canal towpath. finishing at Renegade Brewery.

For a well deserved rehydrational beverage

Weekend Running

From Tim: Cavity trays Saturday morning meet had the walking group and Sharon and me leading the runners. Weather was great and the company even better. We ran down to Monty via Lufton loop and Windmill crossroads, Balls Hill. 10k achieved by all with Chris Greengrow and Gemma Murley cracking some extra. Met up with the walkers at No.5 for the customary Big breakfast. Thanks all.

From Helen: Sunday Club Run complete a whole 12 miles of it on a VERY hilly but beautiful route! Can’t deny that felt tough this morning but we survived…just…poor Rach took a tumble and has a nasty deep cut of her elbow but managed to complete our run and is now nicely patched up . Massive well done to those completing miles before and after…hats off to you . Nice social after with the other groups enjoying my lemon drizzle and peanut butter cookies.

From Gareth:  BOYS ON TOUR . The four of us met at Ham Hill and after a slight miss communication, with Andy convinced we were running 13 miles and Leigh thinking it was 22, I quickly joined Leigh and then Adam didn’t take much persuading. So it was three against one. And off we went.

It was a Conquest of Avalon out and back route today. Andy spent the first few miles trying to convince us that turning round at 7.5 miles was the best idea. I was having none of it. We were committed to the distance and nothing was going to stop us.

By the time we got to Yeovilton Andy was trying to single out Adam on his own, to turn round and come to his way of thinking. But Adam had just had a gel and was flying. So again Andy was in the minority.

We finally got to the turn around point. Andy was a little happier now. As we all know he is a great runner in the latter stages. He put his foot down and he was off shooting past Yeovilton and into Ilchester.

A quick water stop and some sweets and we were on the home stretch. We were feeling it now and the sun was melting us. Adam and Andy pushed on with me and Leigh bringing up the rear. A drink in the POW after was the perfect finish.

Great day had by all.

From Mark:  Sunday Slow and Steady outing to Burnham on Sea. Thanks Phil for driving Denise, David, and myself up to Burnham where we joined Tara and Andrew for a hike to Burnham seafront.

We continued along the beach to one lighthouse, then inland to the second lighthouse hidden among the houses. We returned with an ice cream stop at the pier before ending with a cream tea kindly provided by Denise with her home made plum jam.

From Amanda: Wow I wasn’t expecting such a beautiful morning run, lovely route, great company and delicious cake (thank you Helen Nesbitt).

From Tracy: Leading Allys 10k jeffing group this morning. Yeovil 10k route in reverse. Well done all.

Park Runs

From Steve:  Druridge Bay Parkrun Northumberland. From the south of Cornwall last week to the north of Northumberland this week.

This is the 2nd most northernmost parkrun in England (Alnwick just up the road is the most northern but not on today). I woke to a bright sunny day and headed off on the short distance from the campsite to the parkrun. It’s a 2 lap course on a gravel path around a lake. A flat course but a bit windy.

I was very happy to get 23rd place (also getting me position bingo!g It’s right on the coast and just over from the run is an expansive beach looking out to the North Sea Next week it’s the hilliest parkrun in the UK.

From Margarita: So today the three became two, as Angela had to work, so it was just Janine and me heading off to Five Arches parkrun. Janine had already been before, but it was my first time there, so I was looking forward to ticking another one off the list!

Janine had her sights set on a sub-30 and absolutely smashed it, coming away with a shiny new 5K PB!

For me, the plan was a little different. I wanted to put everything I've been practising into action, just run and see what happened, but without completely destroying my legs with Bridgwater Half Marathon in mind!

I'm really pleased with how it went and managed to run my fastest parkrun for quite a while, which I'm definitely happy with!

Five Arches is an out-and-back course, with around 800m out and back, followed by 1.6km out and back along the same stretch. It's lovely and flat, so definitely a nice one to have in the parkrun collection!

From Donna:  Today I decided to do Southwick for the snakes challenge and compass point. I have a stinky cold and don't feel 100% so just decided to enjoy rather than race. This was there 15 year anniversary where a lot of the runners dressed as super heroes. We were also given a voucher from Trowbridge garden centre for free cake to celebrate this huge achievement.

I said to one of the local park runners that this could be a pb course if I was feeling 100%. She said to me - really with that hill? It is a 3 laps around the course and I never saw a hill, maybe a very slight slope. There is parking but no toilets. As 1st Saturday of month I wore my yeovil vest. The marshals were shouting out 'well done Yeovil.

From Helen: Lots of YTRRC at Frogmary this morning for one of the Championship Races and celebrating Amelia’s 100th Parkrun massive congratulations on reaching this milestone Amelia.

Letter to the Club

We have had some correspondence sent to the club.

PUB RUN – SANDFORD ORCAS – (3RD SEPTEMBER 2026)

From Mark: The fast group tonight was made up with Guy, Stephen, Lyndsay, Rob, Elie, and Rebecca. I think Guy was leading. Alison led the not so fast group which was made up with Alison, Mel, JC, and myself. Phil ran alone.

Thanks Alison for the adventure. The route tonight was almost entirely improvised as we started off going the wrong way. Heading south towards Sherborne we picked up on a track to the right just outside of the village. We had to cross a large puddle. Later, taking a right turn, the track came out on the Trent road. Crossing over, a slightly overgrown path with badger sets took us to another road near the café. We ran back down to the village and did two small loops to the east of Sandford Orcas.

The food was very good. Thanks Phil for organising.
