A Weekend of Hope
Released On 13th Jul 2025
A J Bell 10k
From Malcolm: On Sunday 6th July I ran for England Masters 75 - 79 age group in the A J Bell 10k in Newcastle. It was a great event and very well organised. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
Piddlewood Plod 10km
From Margarita: A few of us went to do the Piddlewood Plod 10km today. After trying to round everyone up for photos (that was hard work and there was only 7 of us) we started. Out on the road then through a field and up a lane before tackling a hill then another hill that you then realise you are going to have to do twice. A lovely downhill section followed by a nice view of the lake, along for a second lap up the hill then down and along to the finish. All handmade medals by the school, everyone different.
Hope 12
From Lindsay: Super well done to Ann Grace who got a 3rd place podium finish with 100 miles in the bag and a shiny two tone buckle. It was a tough hilly start with super hot conditions but that didn't stop her..well done girlie. Champ xx
From Eleanor: Bloody good fun but SOoooo hot, lots of loose stones, tree roots to avoid. The first hill of 1.5 miles never ended the forests were great to get out heat. Each lap of 5 miles. Hope12 festival wanted a marathon distance but settled with 20 miles as I just couldn’t cope in the heat any more with the prickly heat on my legs and back and blisters on my ankles. @manda_h10 was my side kick and did fabulously completing 3 laps even after having a tough fall. Still smiling. Will come again but definitely want some dark laps in next time. Lovely seeing so many other YTRRC members on the trail. Great support and chatting and cheering.
From Lindsay: Hope 12 done. 30 miles (6 undulating laps on trail) on a very hot day. It was like running in a sauna at times. Although this course was quite shady luckily. 2 ultras and 1 marathon done in 4 weeks for me.
Lovely camping weekend with the club. Lots of laughter and support (apart from certain club members using my own private throne lol).
What a great route, apart from the first 1.5 miles which is mostly uphill with tree roots and stones. The rest is pretty level and downhill with a lovely finish downhill (great for the first couple of laps, but then becomes more technical on the decent each lap lol).
Well done to all the Hope 36 crew Matthew Bambury Ann Grace Da Riush Broniszewski , the hope 24 crew (soloists and relay team) Linda Membury Anita Farquhar Somerset Sharon Hardy June Moule @Adam Anita Jock @gary Amanda Travers Sam Jakeman Denise Byrd and then the Hope 12 crew including myself, John Curtis, Eleanor Ellie Damon and Stephen Warren. Unfortunately Tim Willis couldn't join us due to the van breaking down on route.
Super super well done to Ann Grace who smashed her goal of 100 miles (20 laps) which means she was awarded her shiny buckle woop woop. Matt bambury completed 55 miles and Myself, Steve, JC, Anita and Sharon all did 30 miles for an ultra and Dariusz completed 35 miles, great effort bro.
Who's up for it next year, maybe a little cooler please.
This is a great event and a fab social run to get your marathons and ultras done. Thanks for the company you super people.
Looking forward to a weekend off next weekend to celebrate a friend's 40th xx
Weekend Running
From Matt: Robert Adams Sunday Ten Miler group
When a run starts with "where shall we go?" its probably Rob Adams taking the route! Elie wants road so we did loads of trail. Rob promised shade so we did loads of open sunshine. Just when you don't know where you are, Chris takes over and goes the wrong way. Rob resumes leading and takes you to show you dragons and vultures, then a garden with loads of pigs, dogs and sheep that have all been turned to stone. We hear the bells, we see the most pretentious chicken house ever, we're on paths even I have never seen. Just as our legs are getting tired "we'll do the last three miles on the pavements in the sun", but he didn't warn us about the last hill!
I think Elie Morgan and Natasha are still out there rounding the 10.78 up to 11,12 a half, or probably a full 50 mile Ultra!
Brilliant run, thoroughly enjoyed it and all the company. Tag yourselves in!
Park Runs
From Rach: A bit of Parkrun tourism for Gareth & I, we decided on Drumpellier Country. A nice flat course that took you around some woodland and alongside Lochend Loch.
From Margarita: A bit of parkrun tourism, Burnham & Highbridge. A lovely flat course.
From Linda: Plymvalley Parkrun completed this morning. Sharon said she would join me after explaining most of it was flat through the meadow but some hill. Got there and they have changed the course! So slightly more hillier than before. Very hot, mostly under the canopy of trees. Beautiful scenery. We rewarded ourself with an icecream. Now for Hope 24!
From Steve: Upton House Parkrun - that’s my “U” done. Enjoyed the course and happy with 13/343.
From Jo: Took a couple of photos to get everyone & I am still not sure I did . Well done to all those who took on the heat at Frogmary Green Farm parkrun. With a special mention to Helen Nesbitt, Lesley Nesbitt & Taryn Monks who all did many miles before the parkrun to beat the heat!!
From Ann-Marie: Weymouth Park Run. Fab run and Rob was a brilliant pacer as always.
PUB RUN – LIMINGTON – (10TH JULY 2025)
From Mark: It was warm and sunny, and I could only walk tonight because of possible placi?????itus (a bad foot).
I hiked a clockwise loop of mostly off-road with Mike. Leaving the pub, we walked southwards down the dry rutted muddy track called Thornhill lane. At the end we turned right and walked a shaded narrow path. We turned right, entered a field and started walking north across fields. We reached a track then continued, crossing the Ilchester road. We passed Lower farm and Manor farm, and entered a field. Crossing a hedge we turned right and followed the edge of fields going eastward. We crossed another hedge going out onto the road near the weir. For the last leg we walked along the road back to the pub. It was a pleasant evening for a walk in the countryside. Thanks Phil for organising. The pub food was good.
