AVR Wiltshire Half

From Rach: I took a trip to Edington this morning for the Wiltshire half! The weather was spot on, great marshals and support all the way round, an undulating route with a medal and T-shirt at the finish!

Brent Knoll 10k

From Jo: Somerset Series - Running Races you have a lot to answer for - having done Brent Knoll twice before, I had said never again, however……!!!! It wasn’t for club points, our season has finished. It wasn’t even for the third of the medals to finish the trilogy of medals, I hang them on a rack so apart from a photo, they would never be together again. But it was because I had seen I was sitting in third in my age category for the Somerset Series & you know us runners, we all have an element of competitiveness in us .

I have to say, I have done this one in far worse conditions so I was grateful that my last time doing this one (& it REALLY IS this time!!), was not too bad. There was some mud & the steep up & downs still exist but thankfully the forecasted rain never really showed. I have to say a big thank you to Lesley Nesbitt for the company on the way around.

Not only did I get a nice Somerset Series baseball cap for completing 8+ races in the series but I managed to hold onto 3rd place over all in my age category & won myself a nice engraved tankard. A nice end to this years race series.

From Ann: Wasn't really feeling this weekend but what a great one it ended up being . first was Saturday evening with a great team myself, sara, tris and Nat done dark valley trail night time run i decide to just do 10k it was wet muddy but an amazing course and a lot of fun then sunday was Brent knoll and wow never done it before but what fun mud hills slipping and sliding perfect weather conditions with the awards after I managed to get 1st for age with a nice little trophy and out of the Somerset series i came 2nd in age and got a nice glass tankard which seeing I didnt know a lot about and only done the minimum amount of races needed I was super pleased with.

Silverstone Half

From Chris:  Sooooo we did a thing today, Tracy and I visited the F1 track of Silverstone. We both completed a half marathon. Tracy, already a legend in half marathons, and this track gave me some tips for my 1st. We caught up after 6km in, and separated just after 7. Lovely to see her and her tips. I manged a. Constant plod all the way round, only walking 20m to put phone back In case. Not sure of results just yet, but there was 6000 people taking part, fro. 5k 10k and of course 21km

After all the injuries I have been suffering, and still am to some degree, I managed a rough time 2hr20.

Weekend Running

From Sharon:  Was it wet? Yes. Was it windy? Yes. Was it fun? Obviously yes. Were there hills? Again, yes. Cavity Trays route this morning took us out to Montacute and up to Odcome. Another great run with great company.

From Graham: Nice social long run from Yeovilton this morning - perfect conditions.

From Amanda: Beautiful 8m Jeff, we were lucky with the weather and I feel lucky to have such an amazing group of people to run with. Thank you.

From Helen:  Another 12 miler Sunday Club Run completeand another hilly route! Much faster than planned, well done all rewarded with a nice social in the cafe after, and of course my yummy cake, and extra yummy tiffin thanks to Lawrie this morning too. Thanks for the chai latte Dariusz.

From Yunmi: What a brilliant social run, recceing the infamous Full Monty route with some of our energetic and most spirited club members!!

These young club members( average age 23.2 yrs)brought fantastic energy and smiles to every incline, descent, and muddy patch! Nothing beats exploring tough trails with great company!

P.S: Looking for 2 Full Monty places for Will Arnold & Lauren Arnold if anyone can't make it to the start line.

From Ali: Sunday social 10K group this morning and what a difference in the weather from yesterdays. Only 3 of us today running the Yeovil 10K route followed by cakes in the cafe from Helen Nesbitt and Lawrie.

Park Runs

From Jo: I think I prefer cold, bright & crisp!! Today saw a few of us at Weymouth parkrun in the very wet & windy condotions. (sorry we missed you in the photo Kevin Doherty). I was happy with 27:30 & 3rd in my age category. Can’t think why, but it was only me who then went for a dip in the very choppy sea!! I have to say it was exhilarating & although only in the water for 5 minutes, I had a great time. Life is good.

From Linda: Today I ticked off one of my Compass challenges. I'm 50% in! I was meant to do it last week but changed my mind as it was meant to rain (but it didnt). Well it was a bit drizzly but OK. Very muddy and I was warned about it, but my stubborn head said Get on with it! We had the opportunity to change our mind as we drive past Southampton Parkrun! The marshals were great. 3 lap route, 3 small hills, very slippery. I would do this one again....in the summer. Came in 66th place and 2nd in my age category. Slower time but I wanted to keep upright.

From Louise: Bournemouth Parkrun for me today. It was very windy and a bit wet but the 50 marshalls were lovely and encouraging. It's one small lap and then 2 larger on tarmac paths and grass. I was pleased I was able to walk a lot faster today.

From Trevor: Great field parkrun! Awful conditions.

From Steve: Well another 7 o’clock park run this morning so alarm set for 5.30 am as I had a 50 minute drive to this one . Lovely little course and I didn’t rush as much this morning so was able to chat to other runners and enjoy the view. Last one of six park runs here so happy to keep the legs turning over once again.

From Helen: Thoulston Parkrun today for some of usPaul’s suggestion…which I can’t deny I wasn’t overly keen on being on grass BUT actually the grass was short so feet didn’t get too wet AND I think we could have been the luckiest with the weather as although a cold wind and drizzly, it wasn’t anywhere near the heavy rain expected Nice social brekki in Mere on route home, thanks for organising that Alison. Thanks all for lovely morning.

From Steve: Sherwood Pines Parkrun. After a late night going to a hip hop gig (Loyle Carner) (lucky me ) with Ben in Birmingham, it was hard work getting up to do a parkrun but not wanting to miss an opportunity I roused my weary body and headed out.

I had planned to do Vicar Water country park for my “V” but that was cancelled (fortunately I arrived early! so had time to come up with a plan b (note to self - check parkrun venue schedules ), fortunately Sherwood Pines was only 10 minutes further up the road. A nice 1 lap course through the forest and very similar to Moors Valley but with a bit of a hill 2k in. Finished in 20:36 and 2nd in age, but think I was 1st and only in my age at last nights gig.

From Margarita: Rocking our tutus at Upton House parkrun today. An undulating course with a big lap, then a small lap followed by a big lap. Nice parkrun albeit a bit cold and rainy. Hot drinks and cake after.

PUB RUN – WEST CAMEL – (20TH NOVEMBER 2025)

From Mark:  It was cold tonight, with the air temperature hovering around freezing point. Not so fast had Rob, JC, Nick (new man), and myself. The faster group was Guy, Ann, and Crispian. Denise, Rachael, and Alison walked with Phil, and I think David and Mel D ran together.

So, leaving the Pub we ran south to the Queen Camel road, and turned Left. Running eastward we turned left again and ran the narrow lanes past Wales and some farms until reaching Queen Camel. We ran the length of the village, and continued past the new school. Heading back towards West Camel, we continued to Southmead where we turned right. For the last leg we ran past houses back to the pub.

It’s a nice pub, and the food was good. Thanks Phil for organising.
