Lanzarote Marathon 2025. Full Results
From Bungy: Having done Lanzarote seven times I have always thought it would be a good Club trip with 10k, Half and Full Marathon. This year the Club went for it and 36 Club members made the early morning start to Bristol Airport and the flight to Lanzarote. Most of the Club stayed in Nazaret Apartments as this was closest to the Square and Jesters, also a nice 1k ish walk to the start of the Marathon and the coaches to the 10k and Half.
The Marathon starts first at 08:00 on the sea front and does the 13.1 miles to Puerto Del Carmen, the turn around point and start for the Half. You head back on the same route and as you get to Arrecife before the biggest hill and the start point of the10k start point. At the end you get food, ice cream, and free beer and soft drinks.
After the races it was a few beers on the way back to the Square, food and a night in the Square followed by the walk up the stairs to Jesters International Karaoke Bar.
From Lindsay: Lanzarote Marathon 2025 done and No 12 in the bag for me this year. Challenge complete. This was a nice out and back, slightly undulating route, passing right through where the planes land. We started off strong and kept in front of the 4.15 pacer right up until after half way but then the sick feeling hit us both, despite taking on plenty of water, electrolytes and melon along the course. That's when the 4.15 pacer went passed us. Then Steve @rabbitspawsw had cramp at 20 miles which made the last 10k very slow but we did what we could to get to the finish. We were passed and cheered on by @johenley @bustaboy5 @lindamembury who were doing the half marathon and Fez and Gary doing the 10k. We made it over the finish line in 4hrs 53 where we were greeted with free food, beer and a 10 min massage. Would definitely do this one again x

Weekend Running
From Sharon: A cold but bright and sunny morning jaunt out to Odcombe, along Camp Road before heading back to cavity trays. Two groups - one mixed and the other just ladies. Great running from all and just the best company. Next week Christmas leggings or tops or hats if you dare.

SOCIAL HIKE - SHERBORNE - 18 JANUARY 2026 - UPDATE
From Mark: So far 27 people (including me) have expressed an interest in this social winter hike. The date is now set for Sunday 18th January.
Lindsay, Stephen, Amanda, Ann, Chris Holt, Gareth, Rachael, Sue Mallinson, Jo, Paul, Rachael, Sarah, Dom, Steve Lye, Lesley, Tony, Linda, Steve, Michael Bird, Rob, Alison, June, Adam, Babs, Helen, Ann-Marie Morris, and myself.
All welcome. The plan is to gather in front of Sherborne Abbey at 10 o clock on Sunday morning 18th of January, and start the hike soon after.
I'm planning a circular walk of around 11/12 miles involving some off-road paths, tracks, fields, quiet country lanes, and some town. Be prepared for some mud in places. Seeing it is going to be a fairly big group, I suggest the Half Moon for the meal afterwards. The meal is optional. I'll check out the pub for availability on the Sunday afternoon.
I'm looking forward to a good laugh with such a big diverse group.

Park Runs
From Helen: Lovely sunny morning to celebrate Rob’s 300th parkrun at Durlston Country Park…of course he had to choose the hilliest parkrun out there but as we were lucky with the weather we didn’t mind as the views made up for the hard work…although dad my not be so agreeing with that statement! We all enjoyed a nice brekki at Dobbies Garden Centre on route home.
Congratulations Robert Adams on this huge milestone achievement.

From Margarita: Shepton Mallet parkrun, nice to bump into Trevor Strelley today. It was cold and a bit icy today.

From Chris: Bushy Park Parkrun, the home of parkruns. What an adrenaline rush! Standing amongst over 1000 people all ready to have fun and enjoy the run ahead. Standing at the start and a 3,2,1 go, we ran! And boy what a sight. Felf sorry for the marshalls stood in the middle as we ran towards them all hustling and bustling to get that extra place forward. My partner stood amongst it all and was overwhelmed y the sheer numbers. A great flat run, on part tarmac, grass, and hardened path. 100% recommend this run if you get the chance. Great views of deers and swans as you run around. Even the beautiful Diana fountain looked majestic.

Hoad Hill Harriers Christmas 10km
From Terry: So life dictated I was to be in Cumbria this weekend instead of sunny Costa Teguise, but I found a race. The first for a long time, 10 weeks in fact, due to injury and other bits, but I found the Hoad Hill Harriers Christmas 10km in Ulverston. So there is one trend in the Lake District in December, it's cold and it's wet, very wet, and wet it was, heavier rain with every km. But it was so good to be back and testing my fitness, it's a bit sore, but I was surprised and happy with 56 mins. Still some to find, but it's a good start. Well done to everyone out in the sun, great stuff. If you have time.

PUB RUN – YEOVIL – QUICKSILVER MAIL – (11TH DECEMBER 2025)
From Mark: Tonight we had Rachael, Debbie, Donna, JC, and myself in not so fast. Ann, Gareth, and Crispian running fast. Tim and Elie running at an inbetween speed. Mike, David, Denise, and Mel walking, and Phil running alone.
Leaving the pub, we ran west along West Coker road, and descended Forest Hill. While making our way to see the Christmas lights at Seaton road, we lost Donna to injury, and then Debbie. We then lost Rachael who went to find Debbie. With the group reduced to two, JC and myself continued by using the paths to get to the old Sports and Social club. We ran out onto Preston Grove, and headed towards the town centre via the foot bridge. We then ran down to Goldenstones via Hendford, and then out onto Hendford Hill for the final climb.
After in the Pub, Denise organised to prize draw for all club members.
The food was good. Thanks Phil for organising.

The Full Monty
From Mafalda: And what do you do on the 1st Sunday of December? If you didn't flew to the sunshine, you are up Ham Hill for the always lovely Full Monty . My 4th year cheerleading this event and still thinking those people are crazy (and I might be a bit also, going around those hills for some photos under those conditions). Everyone did amazingly ! Our club is the best.
