Bideford 10K

From Matt:  Somewhere different today Bideford 10K. Didn't start well as turned my ankle on a raised curb just after the gun ,hobbled the first few yards and carried on to pay the consequences later. The route takes you out on the road to Instow with a few sharp inclines and then back on the Tarka trail onto the Quay at Bideford for the finish.

Good to see a couple of Yeovil TRRC vests on route, Simon and Nikki Rowbottom. A bit disappointed not to creap under 44mins but happy to be in the same place as 3 years ago. Had to settle for 2nd in age category over 70 with local legend and top national age category runner John Shapland taking 1st spot with 43.20. Mat Sparkes 44.14. Nikki Rowbottom 44.45 ,6th 55 category. Simon 46.15 ,6th age 65 category. Some top times record today from all age categories, the race being a national masters qualification race . Any body interested check out the time for top three finishers in each age category, the standard is so high.

Lymington RNLI 10k

From Louise: Lymington RNLI 10k today and Lymington Woodside Parkrun yesterday for the campers and Claire . Both lovely routes. The 10k had over 800 runners and a lovely friendly atmosphere. Although it was hot like last year at least there was more of a breeze. Nearly all of us ran faster than last year (maybe not Rob as he spent all his time encouraging everyone, turning around to see where I was and giving people water). Fez finished in about 47 minutes, Rob just under the hour, Me just over, Claire 1.13 and Ally and Daphne 1.14.

Great Bristol Run Half Marathon 2025

From Margarita: Great Bristol Run Half Marathon 2025 today. All I can say is very hot and a nice two sided medal. Loved the fact they used buses for the bag drop.

Weekend Running

From Tim: Lovely Saturday morning social run from Cavity trays down Balls Hill into Monty with Chris Greengrow Stacey Green and Sharon Hardy. Warmed up a bit on the way back.

From Helen: Lovely sunny Sunday morning 10 miler thanks team, guess it’s not too bad being back in the UK!

West Country Ultra ,Flat 50 Miles

From Andy: An early start leaving Taunton at 7:30am following the canal to Bridgewater. I ran this part with Dom Rowe and Hayley. We then followed the river Parrot to the coast, even the Ham to Lyme walkers couldn’t get lost up to this point . We then ran around the perimeter of Hinckley point Nuclear Power station and onto Watchet then finally past Blue Anchor and finished just past Butlin’s in Minehead. It was a hot day with little shade but a lovely scenic route that even had some beach sections to run on. This was the Flat 50 but there was also the option of the hilly 50 and 100 miler where you run the flat and hilly. The flat 50 has about 1 quarter of elevation of the hilly. Nice to see Tristram Clark on the aid station and I went over the finish line joint 4th place with Hayley who was First Lady.

Duck Race

From Matt:  Only a short race today. Going was slow due to the rainfall, and the tunnel was scary as you didn't if the exit was going to happen at all! Coming into the last part, down a gradient, I was able to pull off a sprint finish and beat three or for over the line for the win! Nether Compton Village Duck Race winner! I got the medal, £10 cash and a bottle of wine in the raffle!

Plymouth 10k

From Trevor: Plymouth 10k great run! Got soaked, heavy rain,35 minute delayed start! But superbly organised would recommend this event.

Saints Hill 10k

From Jo:  With the amount of Yeovil Town RRC members who turned up for today’s The Saints Hills 10k anyone would have thought it was a Championship race. Oh, hang on, it was!!!!!

As we all started to arrive in the brilliant sunshine the chit chat was all about points & tactics. Also the odd comment of “I’m never going to beat them” (including out of my mouth!!) but I am happy to settle for however many points!! As always the group photo was a challenge but I think we only misssed one, sorry Alan, you may have still been in the toilet que - there is always one!!

Once the photo was done we (mostly) all joined in for the warm up, although this particular one seemed to finish us off before we had even started!! It was that energetic once she was finished warming us up, she tried to start us all off racing, but then she realised it was still at least 5 minutes too early!! 3/2/1/go & off we all went. Those who have not done this one before, very sensible, it is a killer!! If you are not going steeply up you are going steeply down!! It is rutted, uneven & some of us encountered our first stinging nettles of the summer season!!

It was fantastic to see so many club members out on the course marshalling - thank you all. On a tough course seeing a friendly familiar face makes all the difference. With the exception of Tim Willis whose comments “I thought we were a running club” were not helpful as we tackled one of the steepest climbs of the course that he & Sharon Hardy happened to be marshalling near the top of!! One by one we all came across the finish line, safely & in one piece although I am not going to lie, Luke Betteridge did look a little pale, but then I discovered he only went & won the race . After, I heard he had said, well once I was in front I felt I must stay there!!! Our very own Ann Grace bagged herself 2nd overall lady which she kept very quiet until her name was called in the presentation saying, in her shy voice, well I wasn’t too sure . She was also on hand at the end handing us all ice pops as we funished. As I got the order of finishers wrong last time, we will just have to wait for the results to be published . All there today, whether running, marshalling, organising or supporting did the club very proud. Well done all & thank you.

From Chris:  This was one of the toughest challenges I have i have done. Although I don't mind hills...the down hill kills me every time. Just need to practice more i guess... Was a great course and the marshalls were all sublime. All runners did amazing from 10k to 5k. Really enjoyed this one. Definitely next year's challenge. Now sat enjoying a well deserved pint!  Happy with time and effort for first attempt.

Park Runs

From Mafalda:  What a glorious morning for YTRRC takeover at Frogmary Green Farm Parkrun. Everyone did brilliantly! Here are my few photos from this morning! Love being part of this amazing club!

From Simon: A solitary YTRRC representation at Bushy park in what must have been a field in excess of 1500 runners.

From Adam: Netley Abbey parkrun for Corinne’s N. Beautiful park next to the sea. with good cafe. However due to an event in the park we had to do the C course - nearly 6 laps of a large field. Still breakfast was good and a visit to the Abbey ruins.

North Dorset Village Marathon

From Lindsay: North Dorset Village marathon 4th May 2025.. My 5th one this year and 15 in total..this course was lovely albeit quite hilly and, along with the sunny/hot conditions, it didn't make it an easy one. Saying that, I still got my 2nd best marathon time (4hrs 23 mins). Thanks to my running companion Stephen Warren for the company and well done to Andy Lambert and Paul Cable for also completing the marathon . A great day and another one in the bag

PUB RUN – Royal Oak – (11 MAY 2025)

From Ann: What an amazing Thursday pub run we were at the Royal oak in stoford tonight there were 10 of us . Mark Larcombe walked just over 3 miles as a recovery walk after the amazing ham to Lyme walk he done so toes were still a little sore so better to be safe than sorry and not run tonight. The rest of us all ran together and well done bungy for keeing us all together . We started with some nice little hills and thought omg is this how tonight is going to go but no ,typical bungy style it was an adventure ,we all survived the hills to then go down a lovely tight track with some lovely stinging nettles I was the first to scream warning the others of what was to come , then through some fields with a what I think is going to be the norm for our trail runs which was some lovely cows again. Then onto a field with long growing green stuff sorry wasn't grass but not sure what it was but the legs definitely got a good work out jumping and running through that .we had a bit of road in just to mix it up then through another field but cut this time ran down no way out so back up again . What we do for a few extra miles , down a dirt track and then back on the road with a lovely little hill but the last little bit was all down hill which was a great end to a beautiful evening with some amazing people . Well done everyone . Oh forgot fez met us at the end for drinks while we ate . How can I forget Phil Mac Quaid omg he had a lovely walk /run on his own a braver man than me.
