A Truly Busy Racing Weekend

A Truly Busy Racing Weekend

Released On 6th Mar 2026

The Grizzly

From Andy:   A cold start this year but we soon warmed up running along the beach on the pebbles.

This is the third time I have been punished and claimed a place in the ballot. If you haven’t tried this event, give it a go, it’s fairly flat and not much mud.

Paris Half

From Tracy: Paris Half Marathon this morning nice course and great disco at mile 11.5 just the boost you need to get you to the finish line!

YTRRC SOCIAL HIKE

From Mark:   The 12th one of these I have done now, and it was a success. 17 walkers and a few more joining us for lunch afterwards.

We did a 10 mile clockwise loop with just about 1000 feet of climb. From the Abbey in Sherborne we headed north to Sandford Orcas, then climbed through Holway, and down into Poyntington. At Oborne, Alison and Rachael took a more direct root back to town. The rest of us climbed to the golf club, and returned to the town via Redhole Lane.

We had a drink in the Digby Tap, before the Sunday roast dinner in the Britannia Inn. Thanks to Alison for organising the meal. The Sunday roast dinner was very good quality and quantity.

I'll probably wait until after Kevin's Ham/Lyme walk in may, before doing another walk. Thinking of West Bay, Bridport, Symonsbury area for the next one.

Larmer Tree Races

From Margarita:  Larmer Tree races today. On a cold and foggy morning Jo and I travelled to Salisbury. Joanna Samuel was all set for the half and myself the 10km. We bumped into Andy Lambert who was doing the 20 miler. Also doing the 10km were Debbie Rennard, Paul Gilbie, Rach Pep, Mel Cox, Kayleigh Philps and Oli Blakley.

Jo started us all off with the half at 1035ish. Andy then started his 20miler at 1055ish. The rest of us started the 10km at 1105, everyone went bounding off at the start as we had a nice downhill, followed by some uphill and muddy trail paths all the way to the water station after this we were treated to some downhill before a 1km uphill to the finish. It was pretty foggy so I can only assume the views were amazing. Oli & Kayleigh rocked in together, followed by Debbie, then came Paul closely followed by Rach (who's doing amazing coming back from injury) then we had Mel and finally myself for the 10km. (Apologies if I got the wrong order there) Waiting for Jo to finish we saw Andy sail past on his 20miler going out for his 2nd lap and then Jo came in, the only Yeovil for the half, she did amazing after concurring a tough half last week. We then decided to stop for pizza and coffee. Thanks Jo for driving.

Lisbon Half

From Sarah: My first Super Half Marathon in Lisbon in the sunshine and home in 1:59:25.

Weekend Running

Communifit Charity Run

From Kim: Communifit charity run at sherborne this morning 5k , myself & Claire Church.

Park Runs

From Jo: Yeovil Town RRC does Weymouth Parkrun.

From Lindsay: The youngest and I are visiting the eldest for the weekend so I had to do the local park run again whilst they had a lie in.. it's only over the tracks so would be rude not to. Not a bad run seeing as I was going to take it easy and just do a recovery run. 3 laps and not very hilly which is great.

From Taryn: Tourist parkrun at St Matthew’s field prior to a little recce of the flat West Country ultra.

From Mafalda:  This Saturday took me and Mr Watson to Cranbrook Country Park. We got the 3rd of their routes - alternative winter route! It's almost 3 loops in gravel paths around a smaller area of the park. The weather was surprisingly dry down there, even if grey and brisky (just as I like it for running ). Marshals were all females due to World Women Day tomorrow. Everyone really nice! One to repeat in the summer to see a bit more of the park!

From Andy:  Harlow for my 49th parkrun. Where did the sun go!

From Chris: Moors Valley park run today, my 25th. Was looking to forward to this one. The course had to change to route B due the original path by the lake still slightly flooded. Thus meaning the out and back section was longer than normal. A big turnout for their 450th run and also pacers day. This was good as coming back from injuries and feeling good I wanted to push myself a little bit to see how progress was. Sadly, after 2km and up a very slight hill, snap, cackle, pop, instant pain my calfs again. Determined not to give up, I walked the rest of the course with my partner. The course was great, marshalls extremely friendly and some happy to play music as you went as round. Car park was cheap for the 2hrs, afterwards, your better off selling your car. None the less, despite the legs again, we still smiled and had a good time.

From Louise:  Another new Parkrun for me today. Thoulstone is mainly 2 laps around a field which is a bit more interesting than it sounds! Despite the drizzle it wasn't slippery or too muddy. I enjoyed it. The café on site doesn't open until 9 so if you need the loo before stop at Warminster services a mile up the road.

A good tip from Alison was to park in Morrisons after and walk around the Park and lake opposite which would have been really lovely on a sunny day

From Kim: Lovely to meet Terry this morning at Shepton Mallet parkrun & it was kind of you to stay & cheer me over line. A hillier one than i expected.

PUB RUN – EAST LAMBROOK – (5TH MARCH 2026)

From Mark:  Guy, Stephen, and Ann ran fast and far tonight. Rob, JC, Gareth, and myself ran not so fast. Rachael, Alison, and Louise did some run walking. Phil ran alone, and Fez stayed in the pub.

Not so fast did a clockwise loop, first running along owl street up to New Cross. Turning right we continued down New Cross Hill to the Rusty Axe at Stembridge. We continued onto Kingsbury Episcopi and turned right again. We ran along Broadmead, and out to Gawbridge Bow. Turning right, we headed westward back to East Lambrook and the pub.

It was steak night, and the food was good. Thanks Phil for organising
