Weekend Running
From Ali: Sunday social 10K group this morning with a Jeff out to Over Compton which turned into 7 miles. Beautiful morning with great company
From Sharon: Despite the forecast the rain held off until Stone Lane for the cavity trays gang. Great running once again from all. Some doing extra mileage as on taper in readiness for next weekends marathons. Despite the photo suggesting otherwise Honey did run too. Good luck to those marathoning next week - you've all got this.
The Green Lantern
From Linda: Moors Valley Parkrun. Left really early but only just made it in time as they decided to close the M27! Had time for a quick wee, then off. Not as flat as I thought but really nice. The rain stopped. Good time. Now chill and relax.
From Margarita: The Green Lantern 14 mile today, which follows the trail route of the same name in Exeter .When the race instructions come with a GPX map and say the markings will be with biodegradable paint, the weather last night I knew this would be a tricky race to navigate. Nonetheless I get my number, get to the start, a very small turn out of people and some doing the 9 mile and a few more doing the 14. Listening to the race brief it was said 'you won't get wet feet' and 'you can't get lost the sweeper will always be behind you'. Both of those facts turned out to be wrong. Myself and another guy got lost at the first 2km due to lack of signal, this is where the sweeper ended up in front of us for the next few k, we finally managed to track him down. It was a good race following a good route, I was glad to be running with people, I had a little fall asleep I got excited when I found a sign . All in all a good race, but definitely needed the GPX viewer. Also, the rain actually stopped for the entire race.
Park Runs
From Malcolm: Greetings from Australia. Just completed my second park run with my daughter and grandson in Canberra. Wishing all club members running the London Marathon all the best and most of all enjoy the experience. Best wishes Malcolm.
From Lindsay: A little trip to Wales this morning with Stephen Warren Freya Saunders and Samuel Davis to do the Riverfront park run. This was a nice out and back route along the river, which would have been made nicer if it wasn't wet and the sun came out but nevermind . Luckily we dressed for the occasion. We set out to gently jog this one but then realised we were picking up speed and picking people off.. Not a bad time of under 26 mins and 77th place out of 242 runners. Parking nearby and toilets right by the start.
rom Terry: St Mary’s Parkrun for us today to continue our 5K Tourist streak # 20 Great to see Claire Church there Tail walking.
From Jo: Good turn out for Yeovil Town RRC at today’s Frogmary Green Farm parkrun, despite the cold damp weather!! It wasn’t as muddy as I thought thankfully & the rain held off as we were running. It did take a couple of pictures but I still don’t think we got everyone.
Strickland School 10k
From Tracy: A soggy 10k race this morning at Strickland School, Evershot. A soggy, hilly 2 laps around lovely grounds.
The Weston Prom 5 Miler
From Jo: Points & hats - the things we do. Or was it the fish & chips??!! Tonight saw the next race in our club championships - The Weston Prom 5 miler. For those not interested in points it is a great 5 mile race to bag for our club hats so as a result, Yeovil Town RRC had a fantastic turn out. The competition was fierce at the front amongst the men with I think Jack coming in first for the club hotly followed by Luke & Gareth Davies (sorry if I got that wrong but you were all so fast)!! Rach Pep bagged first Yeovil lady closely followed by Helen Nesbitt & then myself in third. There were so many of us we will have to wait for the results to confirm places but all of us who ran did ourselves & our club proud . Of course a race by the seaside is not complete without the inevitable fish & chips & the great people at Papa’s Fish & Chip restaurant where fantastic as always staying open late to accommodate all 22 of us who wanted to stuff our faces, some eating a little more than others…..!!!!! Great running all & another fantastic night.
PUB RUN – WEST CHINNOCK – (17TH APRIL 2025)
From Mark: There were six of us in the not so fast group tonight, and we ran an anti-clockwise loop. Leaving the pub, we ran south out to snails hill, and along east lane. We passed Phil in Middle Chinnock, and continued down to poop hill bridge. Next we climbed smoky hole lane. At the top we turned left and continued down pease hill, and into Chiselborough. In the village we continued past the church and pub, and back up to the West Chinnock road. In the final leg we cruised back past the old petrol pumps, where we passed Phil again, and back to the pub.
The food was excellent. Thanks Phil for organising.
