A Nice Day for a Walk
Released On 14th Dec 2024
Guildford Mince Pi
From Darren: As it’s the festive season, thought I would add our race to the group. Today we attended the Guildford Mince Pi (3.1415 M) run, you had an and option of 1 loop or up to 10. Rachael managed 4 loops almost hitting a half. And I went for it and managed 10, 31.73 miles. Nice cheeky 50km ultra. Good race in all with a slight hill in the middle (equivalent would be summerhouse hill ) if your interested the company was called Wacky Races.
Christmas Cracker 10k
From Kevin: Maybe just me flying the club colours on rhe windy Weston beach at this years Christmas Cracker 10k Garmin time 44 52.
Scavanger Hunt
From Linda: Don't forget the annual Scavanger Hunt on Sunday 29th December from The Bell on Preston Road, Yeovil. Just for fun, no need to be slow or fast, all are welcome...even if your family/friends want to take part. You can make up a team of up to 6 before hand or rock up on the day and we will put you in a team. Be there from 9.15 for a 9.30 start. We have an area within The Bell until 12 noon. So a deserved pint is a must afterwards. Lots of interest, great way of meeting your fellow running members who you don't normally run with. Go on...you know you want to.
Communifit Christmas Sweater 5 and 10K
From Claire: Lucky 13 of us did the Communifit Christmas Sweater 5 and 10K. Most opted for the 10K whilst the Claire’s took the slightly easier(?!) option of 5K. Both routes were longer than advertised due to a detour for the Sherborne Christmas Market. Some got the email but for those that didn’t it was a nice surprise that we had to run further than planned!! Some (Ann and Trev!!) found the longer route easier?!! The weather was kind but for those in ‘proper’ Christmas sweaters I think a little tropical! A festive pre Christmas run with money raised going to the Sherborne Food Bank.
CLUB SOCIAL HIKE – UPLYME, LYME REGIS – (Sunday 15th December 2024
From Mark: This was the 11th club social hike I have put on, most of them walking in the Lyme Regis area.
On a dry and warm December morning we had 15 (Jo, Linda, Helen, Mel C, Lawrie, Kelly, Paul, Rachael, Kate, Steve, Rob, Alison, Mike K, Mike B, and myself).
Leaving Uplyme village hall, we made our way along Rhode lane, then climbed up Spring Head road. We continued down the lane into Rocombe, and near the other end followed a footpath to the upper road. We crossed over and continued down the Coach road which is a rutted track. We descended down to the Harcombe road. To complete the first loop, of a figure of 8 route, we then descended further, and walked back into Uplyme along Rhode lane.
For the second loop, we walked to the Cannington viaduct via Crogg lane, Venlake, and Holcombe. Past the viaduct we turned left and walked across a field to the track below Horseman’s hill. We continued up Gore lane, and down Ware lane. Turning right, we walked down a track to the coast path, and walked along Ware cliffs. The steps at the end took us down to Monmouth beach and the Cobb. We stopped for lunch at the Royal Standard.
After Ice creams, we walked the final leg along the sea front, and along the river back to the village hall. Thank you all for coming out today for this walk. It was nice to have good weather.
From Jo: What a perfect way to spend a barmy warm sunny December Sunday - Mark Larcombe’s social walk around the surrounding countryside of Lyme Regis. 15 humans & 3 dogs took on the not so flat route that Mark had kindly planned for us. Not much more to be said other than the weather was great. The route was great. The meal was great. The ice cream was great. Most Importantly, the company was great. Thanks all.
Weekend Running
From Louise: Great to have a beautiful morning for Melanie Denham's last run with the Club. Very best wishes to you Mel. Thank you to Sharon and Tim for leading us and everyone for the chatty company.
Park Runs
From Jo: Happy with that, 26:05, 83rd out of 212, 11th female & 2nd in age category . I had to run fast, Linda Membury was in my tail . Well done Mackenzie Lock for running today & thanks to Kevin Doherty for running with him. No breakfast today as I had to rush back but thanks to Linda for driving.
From Chris: A bit of parkrun tourism for me today We set off nice and early to get there for the briefing but google maps let me down!! Finally found the right way but had to run so I wasn’t late I finally got there just as it started!! It was a lovely flat course alongside the River Taff, it was well attended and as always the marshals were great.
From Katie: A beautiful sunny morning at Frogmary parkrun ( post run photo so doesn't include anyone fast ).
From Lindsay: A few of us headed to Poole for a U for our park run alphabet challenge. Myself, Stephen Warren , Robert Adams , Alison Griffiths, Mel Cox , Adam Hawkins and Corinne did this lovely route today. It was a nice little flattish circuit of a field then we went and did a nice little wiggly circuit around another field to then rejoin the first circuit we did and then ran round that again finishing on a hill, didn't enjoy that part lol. We had a bit of drizzle towards the end but it didn't dampen our spirits, especially Robs as he cheered other runner's on.. Then it was off up the road to the cowshed for a yummy breakfast, where we were joined by Lesley Nesbitt , Tony and Helen Nesbitt who had all tackled the Poole parkrun. I would highly recommend the breakfast here and I really enjoyed the park run.. Well done all xx
PUB RUN – SHERBORNE – BRITANNIA INN – (12TH DECEMBER 2024)
From Mark: We had five in the not so fast group (Kirsty, JC, Ann, Matt, and myself). I led a clockwise loop around the town. First we made our way westward via Westbury, Ottery lane, and Lenthay road. From Honeycombe rise we made our way up to Bradford road using some paths. Continuing eastward along Bradford road, and Sheeplands lane, we crossed over the B3148 and descended down to Coombe road. We climbed the steps at the bottom of Blackberry lane, and continued along Priestlands to the Bristol road. We headed along Vernalls road, and continued through the houses to the eastern end of Coldharbour. We went off road for a while at Dodge cross, on the way to Oborne road. Heading back into town, we ran up Newlands, and stopped for a while at Sherborne house to look at the Christmas decorations and lights. We continued down Acreman street, and ran back into the bottom of town before running back to the pub.
After, we joined Phil, Fez, Louise, and Rachael, for the meal in the pub. The food was good, and good value. Thanks Kirsty for some of the photos.
