Worcester Half
From Matt: Running the Worcester half marathon today, the weather was kind, cloudy but a bit fresh for my old legs. After Running the last couple halfs not pushing hard in the middle of the run it was time to step up.So tactics today, go out reasonably quick and hang on when the going got tough.
Finishing time1:35:14. 1st age category which was a surprise, beating one of the countrys top Vet70 by just a couple of seconds. Fastest half for a few years.
New Forest Races
From Jack: This mornings New Forest Marathon found myself and Sophie Lewis (sadly missing Nolan Lewis) trying to get in before the rain and wind. I managed to drag myself around in 3:49 with Sophie strongly finishing in 4:21. Tricky conditions and it certainly wasn’t flat. Thank you for the surprise support!
From Debbie: Today took myself, Jack and Sophie to the beautiful New Forest where I ran the half and the other two ran the full marathon. Perfect conditions as the bad weather due to set in later. Super pleased with sub 2 as really conjested for the first 3 miles or so. Stunning scenery and a combination of track and road running.
Burnham Half
From Jo: Well that was quite a day….. as we all started arriving into the club house, I don’t think there was a single one of us who was really looking forward to this one!! The weather forecast, although improved, was not the best & despite the hosting running club being fantastic & all the marshalls helpful & very supportive, Burnham Half Marathon is not the most inspiring course . There was a lot of yawning going on with most of us saying this was going to be hard work & slow!! Hard work it was but slow it was not!!! So many of us got either course or half marathon PB’s!!! This may have had something to do with the very heavy rain forecast for towards the end of the run . Most of us managed to cross the line before the heavens really opened & total respect to Margarita Moore who got caught in the rain but still finished with a smile on her face .
Perfectly placed at the end was a masseuse who did very well out of the green & whites!!! Gareth Davies started & then the recommendations passed down to each club member as we crossed the line. Quote of the day has to be “that was the best money spent this year” .
Big WELL DONE to Lesley Nesbitt who bagged 1st in her age category .
The medal is great & forms part 2 of a trilogy but the big question is - who wants to brave the Brent Knoll!!! I nearly had a moment of weakness & said to Lesley I may walk it. Now I am home, dry & warm, I am NOT walking or running it & will just have to admire the gap in my medal set .
Well done all today, thanks to Trevor Strelley &. Deborah Hutchings for the support. We all did our club & ourselves proud
Oh & Helen Nesbitt I am not sure you can describe it as a Hilly” route.
Weekend Running
From Mark: Sunday morning run with the Slow and Steady group, at Ilchester. Thanks Lynne for the route today. The add-on bits to the usual loop made it interesting. Firstly the old Roman road out to the A303, and then the two off-road bits. After, we joined, Phil, Mike, and David, for tea and cake in the car park. All welcome, if you like a very relaxed walk/run on a Sunday morning.
From Graham: Natasha Turner took Helen Sunday Group as a large contingent headed for Burnham on Sea Half Marathon. Enjoyable 10 miles and we stayed dry . Thanks all.
Newton Abbott Ladies 10K
From Linda: PICK UP TIMES
Newton Abbott Ladies 10K on Sunday 28th September.
I have been asked by the Race Direct to arrive by 9am so the coach can get parked before the crowds arrive.
The coach will leave Yeovil Football Club by Cavity Trays for 7am start. Picking up runners on route at South Petherton at approx 7.20. If you live on route to Devon, let me know and the coach can pick up.
Phil Mac Quaid is in charge of getting you all there and has suggested going to Trago Mills afterwards? Let me know your thoughts on this one
There is still plenty of room to enter or come along on the bus. Just let me know and I'll add you to the list. I am also aware that 2 runners can't come, so transfers are available
Bring a change of clothes with you and plenty of change for the yummy cakes they sell there.
Park Runs
From Jo: Spent a lovely day in & around The New Forest with wonderful friends. Bit of an early start from Yeovil for a Saturday but off we went to Brockenhurst Parkrun. This was a first for me & despite the heavy occasional shower’s, it is a really lovely Parkrun. Then as standard, we all went into Brockenhurst for breakfast. After expecting a little gentle stroll around the forest we ended up on a 4+ mile hike to Lyndhurst through the forest which was really nice. The wild horses are lovely to watch & listen to chewing the grass. Alison Griffiths your route was never in doubt . Thankfully the weather was really kind to us on our walk. Once in Lyndhurst we had a quick drink (& cake for some!!), & the we all jumped on the bus back to Brockenhurst. A long but really lovely day.
From Antia: It was a home park run for me this morning. Rude not to since it doesn't start til 9:30 Beautiful run 3 times round the river and I was more than happy with my time! First non-stop run in forever.
From Margareta: Edgbaston Reservoir parkrun this morning, a lovely two laps around the reservoir in Birmingham.
From Lindsay: A little trip to Oxford this weekend for the 'O' Parkrun. I've only got the 'Z' to do now and rabbitspawsw1@gmail.com has a P, V and Z to do. A lovely course with 2 laps of a field and then out and around the outside of a miniature railway, round another large field, up a slight incline (felt like a massive hill) lol and then you go round again. Such a friendly bunch, 5th in my age category and 132nd out of 440 runners, there was alot of runners. Age grade 62.89% so not a bad effort lol. Luckily we ran park run, dashed back to the car and phoned ahead to our hotel who had a full English waiting for us on our return at 10am (we had to do it as it was included in our booking lol, we just made it lol). A trip into Oxford after to do some shopping and visit to the #carfaxtower. A lovely weekend so far, just before my op on Wednesday where I will have to retire my running trainers for a few weeks lol x
From Trevor: Street parkrun in the shade of the Tor.
From Louise: A lovely sunny morning for Clevedon Salthouse Fields Parkrun for Me and Rachael Jones. It was a slightly different route than last time I did it in Jan 2022 but I did it in exactly the same time! It was 3 laps, each time going down to run alongside the lake and up the slope on the other side. A very busy congested start with nearly 400 runners. I liked that you saw a lot of runners of all paces on this course. Mum had booked us a table for breakfast at No. 5 and my brother joined us too. It was really delicious.
From Andy: Bideford Parkrun- we ran 6 laps around the park passing the cafe and the smell of freshly baked croissants, with this amount of laps it was starting to feel like Friday night Track night. Sarah, Dom, Jo and I bumped into another YTRRC runner on the start line (Chris Homewood) who was also on holiday. I managed 8th place overall and 1st in age category.
From Steve: Parke Parkrun. Instead of doing Poole for my letter P I took a trip into Devon. A nice course through the forest with a nasty hill after 0.25 miles and a couple of short sharp climbs.
PUB RUN – SHEPTON BEAUCHAMP – (11TH SEPTEMBER 2025)
From Mark: Only four came to the pub run last night at Shepton Beauchamp (Phil, Ann, Guy, and myself). I went off and did a clockwise loop with a bit added on, on my own. Guy and Ann ran fast, and Phil ran alone. A dull and grey evening it was.
I ran through the village and continued up the road to the edge of West Lambrook. The turning to the right was closed to traffic, but I continued down it. The road was actually blocked half a mile down but I got round the barriers and continued. I by-passed Compton Durville and continued to Shapway Cross. Turning right, I headed down Littlefields lane back towards Shepton Beauchamp. At the end junction, I turned left, and ran to the end of the road before turning round and running back to the pub. Struggling with discomfort, I did a lot of walking tonight, so must do a bit of training to get back into it. The pub is a good one, and the food was good. Thanks Phil for organising.
From Ann: Tonight's pub run was the duke of york there was only 4 of us tonight Phil, mark, Bungy, and myself . Mark and Phil went of on there own and my self and bungy went on a lovely hilly 5 and a half mile loop, it was a lovely evening blue sky with a gentle breeze.
