Big Feat

From Ann: Well what can I say about today's marathon, it was a super early start having to get up at 4am to get ready and set of for 5am my self and Matthew Bambury travelled down to surry to do the bigheat the 3rd in the elemental series. We had it all in this marathon we started in the field and went through some beautiful country side . The weather was sun rain wind most of the elements to be fair very fitting the course was mix terrain sandy tracks ,woodland paths and open plains . We went through devil's punch bowl, Hindhead common and crooks bury hill. I must admit this one scared me the most so far only because we have done so much. I managed to do it in just 4.42 which im super pleased with as my mind was telling me I can not do this to my body and my body was having a fit saying I know your crazy but this is another level of stupid . Bungy you will be pleased to hear i got stung a few times and nearly ended up on my butt . We had mud for the last 7 miles and was told you we had a leg stretcher omg i seen the first bit and thought not to bad had to crawl it then looked around the corner and it went on for ever . The marshals were amazing and the aid stations were outstanding amazing event run by a great team BigFeat Events can't wait for the last of the series in September.

100 Marathon Club AGM Marathon

Every Year the Club has its AGM at a different location and has a Marathon in the morning, so an early start on Sat morning to drive to Dare Valley Country Park in South Wales. It was a 6 lap event with a more down hill on the way out but hilly on the way back. A lovely Park and well worth a visit, it has camping and a Cafe on site as well.

Wye Valley Half

From Margarita: An unintentional trail run today. Tracy and I decided to go through Wales to Wye Valley for the half marathon. An out and back to Tintern, a loop around and then back, easy or so we thought. We started in the heavy rain, through puddles, through the 1km tunnel and then over bouncy bridges, lots of mud, rocky uphill terrain, steep steps, slippery bridges and a bit more mud, but a lovely medal at the end for our efforts.

Gower Peninsula 25k Trail Run

From Steve:  I thought I’d combine the trip to the race with a road trip so went over to West Wales for a few days of exploring first. I hoped that the only Puffin would be of the feathered variety that I’d seen but the hills on the run did leave me huffing and puffin . The run event is a big one with >2k runners, joggers and walkers ranging from 10k up to 100k over the weekend. I opted for the 25k. It’s a great route. Starts with an up hill onto a ridge and moorland with great views of the coast and then drops down to the coast path and energy zapping dune running, across farmland, back onto the ridge and a nice downhill last mile. We were started in waves with the longer distances going first. This meant a lot of weaving to overtake them as I caught up with them and 25k became 16.8 miles!! Somehow I managed to finish in 2nd place (although there were a lot of walkers). Sadly no prizes but the aid stations were good and did get a picnic lunch at the finish.

Weekend Running

From Helen:  Sunday 10 miler complete - East Coker/West Coker Loop in all weathers …Nice to be enjoying a social now over coffee!

From Sharon: Cavity trays this week consisted of a few hills and some trail. Usual two groups. Weather warmer than expected and the forecasted rain stayed away. Strong running from all and great chat.

From Ali: Sunday social 10K this morning. Started off in the rain and finished in the sunshine. A mixture of road and trails out to Coker with some fun along the way.

Park Runs

From Linda: A few of us at Frogmary Patkrun this morning. Still hot out there but prefect conditions. I got 1st in my age category! Go me. Park run 246 completed.

From Ali: Moors Valley Country Park park run this morning. A beautiful route through the trees , around the golf course and along the lake to the finish. Great cafe and friendly Marshalls. Another one to add to our favourites.

From Mafalda:  This morning me and Jeff Watson decided to try a newish parkrun- Thouldstone. It is a 2 lap course set on an old golf course. It is one for trail shoes and you get the company of some sheep (they kept to themselves today). No facilities pre parkrun but a lovely coffee afterwards. It was really nice and all volunteers very welcoming.

From Andy:  Dry start but muggy turned to peasant rain. 37:41 got me 145th place out of 184 runners. My best time at Woodgate for 2025.

From Margarita: Turning Shepton Mallet parkrun pink in aid of Breast Cancer.

From Louise: Enjoyed this Parkrun. It was a straight out and back but nice to run alongside the river on the gravel path. Free car park 400m away with Tesco loos to use on the walk to the start near Lidl. Good to have the bridge to shelter under next to the start. Heavy rain was forecast but fortunately we only had light rain. I had quite a battle with the lady in the photo which I won, we definitely pushed each other and she thanked me afterwards.
