A Day at Martock
Released On 15th Jun 2025
Martock 10k
From Margarita: Martock 10km today, very warm but a good race with fab support. Love being part of such a supportive club. Well done all.
2025 Barry Island 10k
From Ali: A few Yeovil Town runners went to Barry 10K today. A lovely sunny event that was well organised with a race village and lots of Marshalls. A run along part of the seafront and then in towards the docks before climbing through the town up to Romily park for the water stop at half way. The second half was back along the coast ending up back on the seafront. We had a brass band, a choir, another band and lots of hosepipes with sprinklers. David Moore was first home, followed by Robert Adams and then Mel Cox dragging me round. A good medal and T-shirt at the finish with a few other goodies. Thank you Beryl Chung for supporting us all and to Mel’s friend who looked after Storm. A great day out at the beach.
The Maverick Original
From Eleanor: Sarah Pailing and myself took on The Maverick Original race this morning outside Swanage. Both on the long route (16miles) I bowed out at the medium route (8+ miles) due to back issues but Sarah completed it in a fab time so we saw each other at the finish as well. Gorgeous views along the coastal path and very windy in places. Those double set of stairs glad I had my poles with me. Fabulous event, and friendly Marshalls and great aid stations.
Rame Head Trail Half Marathon
From Steve: Back to Cornwall- Rame Head Trail Half Marathon= Another trip to Cornwall and the Friday night storms didn’t bode well for the Saturday race, but I woke to beautiful blue skies and a bit of wind (the weather….not me ). There was the option of a 10k, a half or a marathon…so I opted for the half. The course starts and finishes in the grounds of Mount Edgecombe and then follows the coast path towards Kingsand through technical woodland sections with some steep ascents and tricky descents, a little bit of road and then farmland. The half does two laps. Really enjoyed it and was really pleased to be age group winner and 9th overall.
Park Runs
From Ali: Barry Island park run this morning and what a beautiful setting along a 2 lap course along the promenade and along footpaths in the headland to Heartbreak hill. A very friendly park run and definitely a repeater.
From Adam: A few of us at Frogmary this morning.
From Terry: The Curly Wurly PR, very enjoyable.
From Louise: Marine Parade Parkrun for me as in Weston for my grandsons birthday. It was a very windy 2 laps on the Prom which was certainly easier than the last time I did it on the beach. There isn't one next week then they move back onto the beach in July. Having pacers was really helpful and I managed to stay between the 28 and 29 min. pacers which was my aim.
PUB RUN – GALHAMPTON – (12TH JUNE 2025)
From Mark: Phil and Guy both ran alone tonight, while the rest of us (Gareth, Rachael, Louise, Kirsty, JC, and myself) set off together. We ran eastwards through the village, and passed the manor house. We continued towards Stoke lane, when Kirsty spotted a footpath to Yarlington. So three of us (Kirsty, JC, and myself) decided to branch off from the group and take the footpath. Unfortunately upon entering fields it was no longer clear which way we had to go, so we just skirted round the edge of the field which was overgrown. There were crops in the field. We reached another path so just ran back down to the road. We continued on a clockwise loop which included Corkscrew lane, and headed back up to Galhampton where we passed Phil. Thanks Phil for organising. The pub meal was good. Thanks Kirsty for providing the photo of John going over the style.
