2011 Relay - Saturday, 15 October.
The Club has a proud record in the Parrett Trail Relay,
which is now in its 9th
year, having taken part in all of the previous events and –
let’s blow our own trumpets here – pretty much dominated. We
always have more teams than anyone else (think 8 was the
record), getting all of our runners around
Somerset
and making sure that we’re the first at the Wynyard’s Gap pub –
and always the last to leave! On two or three occasions, our
men’s team has won the coveted “Eric the Eel” trophy (cue the
“Ann Summers sponsorship” jokes – see the photo!)
Come and run with
us and you’ll find bits of Somerset that you never knew existed!
Because of a
limit of 30 teams, Crewkerne are dealing with entries on a first come,
first served basis – we will apply for 5 teams (ie 30 runners)
to be put aside for us but given our 200+ members we may need more – but we won’t apply unless
we have runners’ names!
If you want to
run, please tell Martin Chaffey on 07929 054576 or
martinchaffey@hotmail.co.uk
Leg details
will be confirmed nearer the time - the event
will see changes to the route this year. The paths have been
re-marked by Somerset County Council it has changed basically
from Oath Lock up to Burrow Mump and the from Bridgwater Docks
to Combwich. Crewkerne are looking to change things as at the
moment Leg 1 is over 12 miles and Leg 2 is only about 3 miles!
Crewkerne Running Club’s website also has details
(including route revisions) on
their
Parrett Trail page.

Yeovil Memories of the Parrett Trail:
“I remember the first Parrett Trail Relay –
starting at 7am up on the coast, in sub zero temperatures, and
running 10 miles in to Bridgwater with Mike Regan, with the
fastest 6 runners on the Leg all going wrong for miles; then
there was the year that Tim Hawkins went “bog snorkelling” on
finding himself on the wrong side of the river; and of course,
“that hill” at the end of Leg 6 last year!” (Martin Chaffey)
