The 2011 Club Championship races are listed below.

(NB - new championship format for 2012)

The club championship is open to all first claim Yeovil Town Road Running Club members. If you are a first claim member and your results do not appear in the championship scoring please email webmaster@yeoviltownrrc.com. Could you please do this whether or not it you are personally interested in the championships as it will have an effect on points awarded to others.

There are a couple of important changes this year.

The first change is the awarding of bonus points king and points queen points for marshaling or assisting at the four flagship club hosted races - that is the Great Western 10k, Easter Bunny 10k, Ninesprings 9k and King Alfred's Torment. 20 points will be awarded for the first race marshaled or assisted at, 30 for the second, 40 for the third and 50 for the fourth, so by officiating at all four you can establish 140 bonus championship points. There will therefore be no races included in the club championships this year if they clash with these events.

In an effort to both make the scoring fairer and perhaps the championships more competitive (particularly for the ladies), male and female championship points will be independently allocated. There will be points for each male club member with the first being allocated 50 points, the second 49 points and so on. There will also be 50 points awarded to the first club female, 49 to the second and so on.

The male and female club champions will continue to be decided on a "best 8 results" principle as well as the points king and points queen for the man and woman at the end of the year with the most points.

As previously there will be points awarded to anyone who does a marathon, the fastest male/female marathon times being awarded 50 points, the second fastest 49 points and so on regardless of which marathon you did. Obviously you need to let us know which marathon you've run and what your time was!

5k Members' Handicap

There is a new 5k handicap series which Adam Hawkins has agreed to run  this year. Open to club members only, the series will take place at Yeovil Town Football Club at 6.30 on Tuesdays on a monthly basis - as an alternative to the club run on the relevant dates - 26 April, 24 May, 21 June, 26 July, 23 August, 27 September (dates subject to confirmation). Championship points will be awarded based on average times for the first five races (minimum three races). The club 5k handicap champions (male and female) will be the winners of the final race - must have taken part in at least two of the previous five races to qualify for the final. Final starting positions will be based on average of times in qualifying races.

There will be a 10 point deduction if the committee find out you've run any race not in club colours!  The ONLY exceptions will be new members who have not yet received their vest.

Real Runner Hat

The "Real Runner Hat" is awarded to all members of the club completing their first competitive event. To claim your hat please contact Debbie Neal, (0780 701 4840 or email) with details of the event (important) and your race place and time (not important).

Grand Slam Hat

As well as the championship there's also the "Grand Slam Hat".

The special club "Grand Slam Hat" is presented to members completing races at "all the distances" in the period of one year from one annual dinner/presentation night to the next.

The distances are:

  • 5 kilometres
  • 10 kilometres
  • 10 miles
  • Half marathon
  • Marathon

To be awarded your hat please e-mail Deb Stanfield with details of a race you have completed at each distance giving full details of the event (results link if possible), the date of the event, your time and position.

New for 2011 - "Super Slam Hat".

This new award for 2011 will be presented to those who do that "little bit extra" and, in addition to the distances for the Grand Slam Hat, also complete an ultra race. To qualify as an ultra race the event has to be a "recognised event" (by the club's committee) over a distance of in excess of 30 miles. If you have any doubt that the event you are planning to take part in will be a "recognised event" please check with a member of the committee at least seven days before you take part. There are many well established ultra races on the calendar now and with these will obviously be "recognised" but if you have any doubt about the race you intend to do please do check first to avoid disappointment.

Claims should also be made to  Deb Stanfield with details of a race you have completed at each distance giving full details of the event (results link if possible), the date of the event, your time and position.

Please note that if you qualify for the Super Slam Hat you will not also be awarded the Grand Slam Hat.

Important notice

It is your responsibility to claim your hat when you've completed the "set" of races. To do this please email Deb Stanfield the details of a race you have completed at each of the distances giving the event date, name and your result. A list of those qualifying for each hat will be published on this web page, updated on a more or less monthly basis.
